HELP - rear brakes ~

:
2003 Mazda Pro5
OK - Hi all - I really need some help - I just bought an '03 MP5 and I need to do a brake job on it - so I get all the stuff I need, and proceed to removing all the stuff to get to the brakes. When I go to compress the piston back into the housing... it wont move. I tried everything I could thing of - even a hammer to see if it would 'break' loos (no pun intended). It wouldn't budge. I busted out some C clamps, but there isn't a good place to latch onto the back of the unit. I even removed the sping loaded return for the e brake in hopes that it would be free'd - to no avail. Am I missing something?

I believe there is an allen screw you must loosen to compress the piston...

Another case of RTM (RTM)
(shop manual that is)

Funny how this comes up almost once a month.

Anyway, welcome to the forum Robb. You'll find plenty of other useful information if you stick around. Don't forget to use the search feature.

Hopefully someone will still look at this thread... So I was able to get all of my brake work done today... and that little feeking light is still on. Granted - the rear pads were damn low, and were in need of a change, but the fronts were not even 1/2 worn. So - what do I need to do to 'reset' the idiot brake light on the dash, or is there yet another adjustment that needs to be made? I am also puzzled by the amount of wear from the rear brakes vs. the front. I have about 38k on the car - has never had brake service on front or rear until now, and the rears were shot. Is this normal???

check the level in the master cylinder. its prolly low and trippin that light. i had to top mine off and there werent any leaks and my brakes had plenty life left???

Ditto. I had that light once and the fluid level in the reservoir was halfway between Min and Max, but filling it up took care of the light. No idea about the uneven brake wear.

My rear's got pretty chewed up from using the hand brake to park all the time. In the winter the brakes would stick over night. prolly not good...but I'd rather that than leave my car resting in-gear.

I usually do both. The only times my rears stick is when it sits overnight after a REALLY hard rain. But I'm in GA, so we don't have those winter problems :p
