Help my Fiancee make a car decision

I've owned many subarus personally including now, there is just NO better bang for the dollar in my opinion!! So I would say go with the legacy if you want something that is going to be a great car for many many years, plus it's cheap to maintain.

1. VW... no good used, can be great or complete crap.
2. Subaru... I would say this is your best bet due to reliability.
3. CX7... I checked out a used one of these, seem to have a lot of creaking due to plastic dash/door panels.

I would say the Subaru or the CX-7. My dad has a CX-7 and I drove one for a few days as a dealer loaner and I really like how it rides. And I envy all my friends with subarus as they never seem to need work, even modified.

no to the CX7, mom has one and its been nothing but problems, had a intermittent CEL every now and then, finally replaced the EGR and the CEL is gone
has a faulty oil pan gasket, replaced under warranty, and now the turbo is starting to smoke

save some hassle, buy the subaru

No to the VW..I have had several and its seems like all you do is spend money on them. I still like them but they are over priced for what they are and reliablity is just not that great. I use to keep a spare coilpack in my 1.8T because I just new if I didnt one would go out on me..this happened several times on little road trips.

my vote would be for the subaru all the way, dad has one as his daily and its been nothing but reliable.

Well, of those particular cars, I would choose the Subaru, only because its the newest, with fewest miles, and seems to be only about $1000 more.

Edit: hell, it's the same PRICE as the Passat. You'd be an idiot to choose the VW over either of the other 2.

Good logic everyone.... which obviously the female didnt follow.

She didnt do bad though.. got an 08 Lancer GTS in Marron with sun and sound package for 13999.. hell of a price on the car.
Not to mention even I like it, and can confidently drive it whenever I dont wanna drive the Speed.

not a bad choice, just keep an eye on the leaking heads, it's always been an issue with diamond stars.

Don't go with the Passat. When I was car shopping everyone told me the same thing about VWs. You will love it more then anything. Up until the day it breaks then you will HATE YOUR LIFE. A few of my friends who had them wound up dumping big $$$ for stupid fixes.

On top of that my budy had one and it blew through an engine in the first 50K. The timing belt went on it and when that happens on those cars it destroys the engine. When he checked his owners manual it only said to keep on top of the timing belt maintenance, but nothing about at what milage to change it. When he called some VW dealers he got answers all over the place, from less than 50K to every 100K or so. He had the engine replaced and in another 50K miles it happened again without warning.

There was a class action lawsuit against VW because of this issue. My friend actually got most of his money back. Still that kind of failure is something you don't need. Oh and I know not all VWs work this way but still.

Get the Subaru. They are tanks.
