Help me identify this Mazda5(?) model

Spotted this vehicle on the road today, sorry for the poor image quality.

Is this gen1 with bumper from gen2?! Is this even possible?

Oh I would like to see that more closely. 😃

It's definitely gen1, with gen2 front bumper, headlight and bonnet.
And front badge looks like opel emblem. 🤣

Looks like a Franken swap. Very common with cars that share the same chassis/generations.

Suspect they had to swap fenders to fit the headlights (lacking side markers on Gen2, except '10), sideview turn signal covers, wheels, the whole identity crisis. Hard to tell from the fuzzy pic but looks like oversize headrests so possibly interior swap too? I've always though a 1st gen exterior bits + 2nd gen interior bits = 2nd best looking combo; Lafesta still looks better.

From my past Miata days, the NA with NB dash swap looks fantastic/modern b/c it is essentially the same car/chassis with a few slight upgrades/redesign -just like the Mz5.

The tai lights look to be 2008-2010 LED version, front bumper and headlights are 2011-2015 model. I can't imagine Mazda made the front end structure THAT much different. My guess is a front end accident, and the owner found some junkyard parts and made them work.

Yes, that's what I found so confusing: at first I thought it was Nissan Lafesta, which is not officially sold in the US. But then, the front grille from gen2 made me think this is some sort of custom build.
I think I saw this car around before, I'll post close-up pictures in this thread if I ever encounter it again.
