ok i feel kinda dumb posting this since i just wrote the how to on the front brakes, but how the hell do you compress the piston on the back brakes? do you take this out then compress it?

Yes, I believe using an alen wrench will allow the piston to move foward to make contact to the pad.

place some sort of bucket or catch pan under the caliper, slightly loosen the bleeder until fluid trickles out. Using a pair of channel locks and on of the old pads gently squeeze the caliper in while making sure to apply even steady pressue. Also once you start squeezing do not stop until it's done. As soon as you hit resistance tighten the bleeder off and THEN stop squeezing. Last thing you want to do is suck air back up in the brake system. This should do ya just fine. Take your time and double check everything for leaks before driving. also, with the car OFF, chek your brake fluid level. if it's low top it off, DO NOT OVERFILL. pump gently on the brake pedal about halfway two or three times to verify no leaks and then re-check brake fluid. Also before drving off check the bleeders to make sure they aren't wet.

Enjoy.

they make a tool to do that or just but the pad back on the caliper, protecting the piston and get some big channel locks and squeeze it back in

ok so i loosened the bleeder screw enough to wear fluid was trickling out, cap is off the resovoir under the hood, piston still wont compress.....is something wrong or am i pissed enough at mazda im failing to realize something?

I'm not 100% sure about these brakes...but i reading the shop manual which elemental posted and on page 4-11-22 there should be a manual adjustment gear.... if you turn the gear fully counterclock wise with a allen wrench it will pull the piston inward.

i cant help you on this, but could you do me a massive favour and measure in mm the size of the rear caliper piston????? that would be greatly apprecaited!!
