Okay so I just got done doing a motor swap. Battery is new, starter is trying to start but sounds like the transmission is locked up. Tried starting it in neutral but won't start, get a high pitch whine and nothing else.

Is there something I don't know about this car that won't let the transmission spin? I noticed it wouldn't spin when it was out of the car and I was mating it to the engine but figured it was the parking pin that dropped.

I'm out of idea's here any help would be great. I really don't want to have to pull this who thing back apart.

Anyone know what would cause an AT to lock up even when the selector is in neutral? I can't spin the motor by turning the crank even when in neutral? Any ideas, this is whats causing the engine not to start. I know the motor isn't locked up.

take the transmission out and check everything one more time. How did you put the transmission in? did you bolt the torque converter to the engine and slide the transmission in?

Take everything back out but leave the engine in. Slide the torque converter on to the input shaft of the transmission and lock it in. if you don't, it will do exactly as your describing. then lift the transmission up on a jack, line up the torque converter bolts to the flywheel, and attach the transmission to the engine block. then you can tighten down the torque converter to the flywheel by a little access door on the bottom of the transmission.

you have to make sure the torque converter is all the way locked in on the input shaft.

Exactly that ^^^ muther &^*&er!!! Live and learn, guess i'm back at it in the morning. Thanks for your reply you helped out allot!! I haven't messed with a AT since school almost 15 years ago.

No problem man. Don't feel stupid about it. I've done a ford zx2 transmission swap about 3 years ago and thats the exact thing I did. Everything bolted up great and ...... car doesn't move. like wtf. I was cursing and yelling. the trans even drove good in the donor car. thats when I learned. I also do a lot of trans swaps at my work too..seems to work well the way I described as before. lol

Thanks again brother!! Got the trans out laid it on its side and after youtubing how to lock in a converter I saw how much it dropped into position aka "locking" Can tell you that will be the first and last time I ever forget that. Now to drill out the front to cross brace bolts out since they snapped on me.

But the trans is back on and the engine spins freely. Thanks again!
