heatshield is painted!

it was....i removed the O2 sensor completely, all 4 nuts and carefully wiggled it off...same as the removal, installing was the same, a bit trickier because it was freshly painted therefore not wanting to scratch it, i used a towel to wrap around the edges that rubbed. tightened the O2 sensor (as much as i could, by hand...couldnt get a wrench to grab since the heatshield was on...still need to figure a better way to tighten it) and there you have it...a fresh cheap easy way to add a little more appearance to your engine bay!! (thumb)

was it an easy removel and everything? sorry- ive never looked at removing the heatshield to paint... thanks

i took mine off and polished it. looks damn good and so far the heat hasn't tarnished it yet. it's been back on for about 2 months

Looks very good! Makes me feel like I need to clean up my engine bay... it is so dirty and unhot compared to that

Hmm i may have been proven wrong...I couldnt find HIGH heat (1200 degree) gloss engine enamal...looks good man!

They make a specially shaped socket just for this that you can pick up at most auto parts stores. So, how did you get it off then? (scratch)
I cut my heatshield below the O2 so that the heatshield can be removed without fuss.

i did that to, and i just used a crescent wrench to remove/install the o2 sensor


as for the paint on my heatshield and valve cover i used duplicolor ceramic engine enamel

ouch man, that sucks big time. I guess the heat really collects in that spot cuz of the bolts. Damn paint couldnt handle it. Thats a shame. Let us know what you end up doing.
