heater is not working, just blows out cold air. anyway i can fix this w/o taking it to the mechanic? thanks

my heater is acting up also but it blows hot air ever when the nob is on the zero and the cold/hot nob is in the middle

no.....i was just testing it for the coming winter since i havent used it since buying the car. i had the car on at least 10 minutes and the air never even got warm.

sounded like my problem with my heater. might not be broken. take out the glove box and behind the controls for the ac and heaters look behind the controls and turn the cold and hot switch back and forth. u should see a cable... if its moving around then its not hooked on where its suppose to be. alot of people have this problem that the cable falls off the hook. easy fix just hook the cable (has a clip) back on the orginial position and u should have ur heat back. ill try to get some pictures... i no im not explaining it very well.

ok heres how to fix the heater problem (most likely since this is what happens on MOST MP3's).
First take the glovecompartment box off. Just squeeze in the side of the compartment and pull and it should come out. next locate the cable behind the a/c controls.

now see the part where it says "pull out and off" on the pic (not my pic, i jacked it) do the opposite. If your cable is not connected to the white tab thingy, then just put it on.

and also the car will automaticly turn the a/c on when you turn on the defrost. If you want to learn how to dissable it go here.

Damn these Forums (You all) sure are helpful! Last month someone hit my wifes car which was a Nissan Sentra, and totalled it. She was fine and everything, and the insurance company paid it off and gave her the extra $6 that was leftover! YAY! I know. Well anyway, she needed a car right away and I am in Iraq so I just put the money in her account and within a few days she found a 2001 Protege ES that she liked and she bought it for $2700. It had a few little problems and I went home 3 weeks ago for my 2 week R and R leave from Iraq, and with the help of these forums, I fixed a lot of the little problems. This forum and the people who post on it save each other A LOT of time and money by helping to solve problems quickly and cheaply, a lot of the time, even for FREE! I came back to Iraq 3 days ago, but Im sure my wife will be able to fix this little heater problem without me which is really great because winter is just around the corner. And I am 99% sure that this little cable is the problem with her heater because when she bought the car it had an aftermarket CD player and I could tell that the center dash console and AC/heater console has been messed with before. Anyway, thanks for all the help on all of the issues. I dont have anything to contibute, as of right now anyway, but if I DO, I will definently post it.

^Good stuff man, glad that we could help. But more importantly, kudos to you for being a new guy who knows how to use the Search button and on top of that.. digging up a thread all the way back from 2005!!
