Headlight differences

My p5 has black housing headlights installed that were there when I purchased it.

I'm trying to figure out if they are painted stock ones or the Canadian version.

Does anybody know a way to tell US from CAN headlights? (drinks)

My guess is that they are painted as not a lot of people want to drop over $500 on headlights.

Sorry but I don't know of a way to tell the difference.

The only thing i can think of is looking at the seal closely and try and see if it looks like it may have been opened and resealed. Also, I'm sure the black part of the Canadian lights are smooth all over where as if they were painted, unless done by a professional, may have a little orange peel or signs that they were in fact painted.

I was just looking at the lights and they have some lettering on the lights.

H7 VOL HB3
SAE HRIP 99 DOT

Maybe somebody can look at their known US headlights and see if they have the same lettering??

those are just regulatory markings

you should be looking for the STANLEY marking at the bottom center of the headlight

look at the sealing.
thats like the best way to tell and the "Stanley"

mine don't look opened, i reused the OEM sealant and it sealed right back up after painting

So, that isn't always an option either

I'm at work right now so I can't get the Stanley number off of it.

I'll get it later and put that info up here to.

Then maybe somebody can verify it off of their US headlights for me??

I am pretty positive that some (don't know which year) 5's came with black housings. Charcoal to be correct.

True, but only the Candian models. Both 02 and 03 US models came with chrome housings.

I just looked and the Stanley number on the headlight is P1557.

Let me know when someone gets enough time to look at theirs(wiggle)

My 2002 came with chrome housings, and I remember seeing the 2003's with black housings at the dealer, if that helps.

My car has the same number on the light, P1557. So you have painted american headlights.

In Canada, the '03 came with darker headlight housings along with clear sidemarkers that actuate with the turn signals. The alloy wheels also have fatter spokes.

They make HID kits that require little to no mod (DDM), look and perform incredible!

Thanks for the offer but I like the ones I have, I just don't like to assume anything this day and age.

I do need to clean the lenses up a bit though.
