hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110

hanhz9.xl.jpg

i just ordered these guys today
i like the treed pattern and haven't herd any thing bad abut hankook's
any one have these

i just put these on my car last week right before my first autocross event. i was highly pleased with their performance, especially over my previous mismatched combo, lol. little noise, very responsive, and wore pretty well on the rough concrete at this location. i recommend them so far. but, have not used in snow, judging by the tread patter, i doubt they will work that well. but, we dont get that much snow where i live.

These scored very well (#2) in a tire comparison done by Car and Driver (August issue); these would be on my short list if I needed new tires.

Just ordered my set last night from Discount Tire Direct via EBay. Price was $555 for a set of four 225/45/18s with free shipping and no tax. Also tagged on a 8% off from Bing/LiveCashback as well as Hankook offering a $50 mail-in rebate!!

Price then becomes $461 for a set of four!!!!

Onlinetires.com has the stock size, which is what I'm ordering. Total shipped is $466.08 minus the $50 rebate makes them $416. I debated going 225/45 but read that the taller setup could hurt performance slightly. 225/40 on stock rims might ride rough but are the cheapest $449.82 shipped and $399.92 after the rebate. I'm going to order the 215/45-18's next week when I get paid. I'm not going to put them on right away because I can get another 5000 miles out of the stockers but did not want to pass up this deal and miss out on the rebate. My review of the tire will have to wait til late fall.

Stock size would definitely be ideal. I guess I should have checked. However out of the 225/45/18 and the 225/40/18, I'd go with the first.

Diameter differences are:
215/45/18 - 25.61" stock size
225/45/18 - 25.97" (+.36" or 1.39% difference)
225/40/18 - 25.08" (-.51" or 2.07% difference)

Not sure how the taller size would hurt performance, given that if you have a slightly modded car (intake, exhaust), the taller tire would probably give a more favorable drive ratio considering how close the stock gearing is already.

Let me know what you think.

so the 225/45/18 is closer to the stock size.

Running 225/45/18's (Yoko S-Drives) right now, but after reading up on the Hankooks, they will be on my short list next time around as well. I have a friend in the MINI community who just ordered a set.

i have ran these at 2 different auto-x weekends, one asphalt, the other concrete. they worked very well, good steering feedback, little wear, excellent grip for such a high-treadwear tire. i didnt run enough pressure on the asphalt track, and got a little scuffing of the outer edge, but they are holding up well.

only bad part for me is that i got them in 225/40 for use with my H&R springs, now im going back to stock springs to run DS instead of DSP. the 225/40 will likely be too short to look right, lol.

im ordering these next week as well, i have stock suspension, and i do a lot of carpoolin with 5 people in the car for 20 miles... does anyone have a 225 45 setup on stock wheels ?.... any rubbing issues ???

thx...

There have been reports of rubbing issues with the taller 225/45 and people don't recommend 225/40 on the stock wheel so I ordered the 215/45.

ok... 215 it is... neways, is online tires free shipping , or is discount tire better .. neone ?

thx

No free shipping at onlinetires but was still cheaper than discount shipped to me. Go to both sites and compare out the door prices but what I've read and found to be true is that onlinetires has the best prices period.

i dont no but im running 225 45 18 potenza polposition all season handeling in the toilet and in a hard corner the tires are hitting somthing in the front fender well perty nice at speed girks wheel also stock height and stock rim beware of the higher profile go with the 225 40 18 now ive got to drive like conservitive no corners over 70 any more

I ended up going with the Kumho XS in 225/45-18. Took the car out this morning for a shakedown. All is well in smooth sharp corners or smooth high speed sweepers, BUT I did notice some rubbing in the rear whenever the corners were not so smooth or there was a dip in the road. I guess while the suspension is loaded from the corner, the additional suspension movement to absorb the bump or dip in the road, is causing it to rub somewhere.
I don't see how it could be rubbing on the fender lip...seems like the tire is tucked in far enough where that couldn't happen. Could it be rubbing the inner fender liner plastic? I am tempted to attach my Go Pro camera to the rear fender, point it at the tire, and see if I can see where it's rubbing. If I do, I'll post the video.

Sorta wish I would have went with the 215/45-18 Yokohama's.

I have some 225/45 Bridgestone RE-01R's on stock rims (stock suspension), and I too have noticed occasional slight rubbing in the back during sweeping turns at high speeds. Most often when other people are in the car. I also researched a bunch to make sure 225/45's wouldn't rub...guess nobody on here ever carries passengers!

I haven't pin-pointed what is rubbing yet either, but I'll keep hunting and post results if someone else hasn't by then!

These posts were lifted from three different people having rubbing issues with 225/45 tires. Maybe it is hit and miss depending on which tire brand you buy.

Keep in mind that running a higher spring rate ala coilovers will help keep your tires away from your body as well. 215/45 on 18x8 ET40 here and I had never rubbed until I forgot to check my tire pressures and ended up being about 10 lbs low on my drivers rear tire.

I have read some reports of rubbing and some not.
Mine have been on for 100 miles, no rubbing noticed yet, had 2 adults and 2 kids in car.
That is with Hankook V12 225/45/18 on stock wheels, stock springs, and FSD dampers.
