Gutless cat!

I went to "Exhaust Pros" today to see if they could make me a test pipe. When the guy came to look at what he could do he asked me what year. 2002, I told him.
"Can't do it." he says.
Why not?
"Because you will throw a CEL."
I then proceeded to explain to him that it wouldn't because there isnt a sensor after the second cat.

Anyway, he looked under the car and said I cant do anything for you.
I guess its too difficult for them to make a pipe to fit in our cars.
After being home for about 15 minutes I decided to just bite the bullet and gut that sucker. I went to town on it with a big drill bit and a few other items.

About an hour later I finished. I think that it pulls a lot harder in the lower RPM's than it did before. I didnt get a chance to really get on it yet, but when I do I will let you all know.

wow, look at this guy with the HUGE BALLS.

Nah man, that is really impressive - I'm looking forward to hearing how it turns out.

so wait you drilled holes in the outside of the cat?

So now you have liek 20 exhaust leaks?

No, no, no.

I smashed all the stuff that was inside the cat. It was a honeycomb material along with a metal mesh that looked like body armor. I cant believe that air could even flow through it.

My first cat will let me pass emissions. My dad did the same thing on his VW when he was younger and passed emissions with no problems. He said the trick is just to let it run a while before you go. Also here in Green Bay they dont test cars for emissions. I have lived here for 12 years now and they have never tested any of the cars that we own.

The performance is noticalbe at lower RPM's. I dont notice anything at higher. It feels like its pulling harder now from a stop.

Enjoy

Sorry this is late. But here it is.

Tools Needed

large crow bar
hammer/small sledge hammer
flashlight
Drill and long drill bit
Misc. other long tools
Bucket (to put one end of pipe in)

Take cat off car.

Put the end that you are not working with into that bucket (very messy)

Start by drilling a hole as far into the cat as possible then stick that crow bar in a smash as much of the "honey comb" that you can.

Look inside with the flash light too see what is left and continue untill nothing is left.

There will be a mesh like metal in there that you will need to drill into so that it gets wrapped around the drill bit, all you do then is pull it out.
