Guitarists?

Mainly just looks. I've heard that a longer E-string on the top side of the nut gives a different tone. I'm not sure I believe it. I've played Chris' Carvins that are both regular and reverse, as well as the 3x3 setup, and I can't tell any difference (unplugged). I can't say it makes a difference plugged in because each has different pickups.

I'm a huge fan of the Karloff Mummy guitar.

Who makes it? I can't read the headstock. Looks like an orange pickgaurd to me though... :(

One of my friends has a Thinline Tele with dual humbuckers and it sounds amazing. I love humbuckers over single coils on guitar, at least. Opposite for bass.

legacy i think. had it for a few days now and i really enjoy playing it. i was looking at a fender bullet and ibanez gio in yellow. something about this one just felt right.

That's awesome. It doesn't really matter what name is on the headstock as long as you like it and it sounds good. My Fender is still my favorite bass with my cheap-ass 70's Univox in a close second.

Those stories of musicians who just stumble across a great instrument are awesome. (2thumbs)

My friends band asked me to play bass for them. They have a big show coming up at Bowling Green University and 200 tickets already sold out. They are nice guys but the music is a little "meh" for me. It's well written but it's a little too pop for me and I would basically just be playing 8th notes the whole time. But it is a blast playing in front of large crowds.

Here's a sample of their music.

agreed play how you want, add your flavor. that's what playing bass is. you should know this. 8th notes are boring. give it your style. SLAPA DA BASS

Well I played in his band for his last CD release show and he kept telling me "Don't make it so funky." so I'm kinda suprised he asked me to play this show too. Much be fresh out bassists. haha.

psh he dont want funk? dont have bass in it

Haha, yeeeaaaah, we're going to rehears Sunday and I'll play it by ear (pardon the pun). So we shall see how it goes. I've still got my main funk/soul band so it's all good if it doesn't work out.

So how is everyone's band doing? Everyone have gigs lined up for the spring?

That show wasn't bad, but damn could you tell you were holding back!

We have five shows coming up in the next 2 months. We are currently polishing our new material getting ready for the studio which we are hoping to hit in Spring to record our 6-7 news songs and add them to our 5 already recorded songs. Then we can release a full CD this summer. We have an artist working on an album cover now (Cyborg fighting a polar bear), and are going to start shooting soon for a music video. The Cover art will be free since she is an old friend, and the Music video will be free since the videographer is dating our bass player's roomate.

Here is a video she did

It will be a similar thing, footage of use playing shows and b-roll footage of us hanging around. Not so fast paced though since our music isn't metal

Sweet, Cam. I'm really looking forward to seeing that video when you guys are done. I like the video he made for other band. And really looking forward to that album cover artwork! Haha

Yeah, we gave the artist free reign for album art and she suggested that. We have a Battle of the Bands coming March 3rd with a $1,500 cash prize. Odds are in our favor. The money would push our Recording time up and help finish our CD early

Are you hip to this "Kickstart" program? Basically where you ask friends/family/fans to help you raise money for your project? Pretty cool if it's for a good cause, like to help out bands get their music out there.

Not cool when it's a friend who wants to raise money for herself to go on vacation to Florida. (true story)

I know of kickstart. It's helping fund a movie of "The Goon" (comic book)

I've never used it because I hate handouts. I feel horrible asking for money, earning it is different though. We paid for our last bit of recording. Around $170 per song came to about $850 for our 5 song EP

Oh I totally agree with you on the "handouts". But for local bands I don't mind supporting them with a couple bucks. My friend was telling me he wants to do one for his band (unfortunately, they aren't very good) and was telling me about his friends band that raised $8k in a couple months and made a really great album with the money.

Just an idear. :)
