my list of bands/musicians that i absolutely cannot stand.

i'm sure there were many omissions, but those come to mind when i think about what will NEVER come through my headphones.

tell me about it. i didn't want to touch on rap because i hate 95% of mainstream artists... my mind explodes when i think about how that guy is rich enough to wipe his ass with $100 bills

"weezy F baby, and the F is for phenomenal"

lil wayne can be added to discussion because he legitimately fakes playing guitar on stage... that's pretty low

Only radio I listen to is jazz and classical station. I hate current radio. I listen to my iPod and CD's

Wait, what now? Video? I don't want to derail this thread too much but I gotta see that. Haha. I don't listen to the radio. I'm a snob. But you don't like Radiohead? Really? Not even a little bit?

His guitar tech must have the easiest job in the world. "Well, gotta tune his guitar before the show. Meh, **** it. He won't notice it's out of tune anyway..."

Oh my. I even watched the ones of him actually playing and they are indeed terrible. I love the comment "tabs please". LOL!

Though, I do like his deep lyrics. I often wonder what to do with my hands while at concerts. I usually just have them in my pockets...

Hey Phen and fellow music-makers! Dan here.
I've been playing more drums than guitar lately, but I'm playing both roles (not simultaneously :P ) in support of a little group at our temple. Yeah, one of the strangest gigs I've had so far.

I've got a red PRS Santana SE model as my primary axe, a black Ovation Applause and... wait for it.... an Ibanez Jem 777 DY (not the 7 string, but the Desert Yellow w/ disappearing pyramid inlay & monkey grip). Looks just like this one:

Just using a small Roland Cube 30 with a stand and dual foot switches these days. It doubles as my monitor and I just mic it if I need to. BOSS chromatic tuner foot pedal is it for me, I don't use any other pedals anymore.

Music-wise, I love Rush and Dream Theater, RATM, Zep, SRV and most blues/rock, some Alt/Punk bands and a broad mix of old school hip-hop, classic rock/metal, merengue (WHAT?!?) and other NON-country genres.

For some reason my latest obsession has been a little-known punk group out of Wyoming, "Teenage Bottlerocket". Previous iteration of the band was "The Lillingtons". Very few hits from these guys, but I now know and like almost every song they ever did. Here's a quick sampling:

Despite the extreme simplicity of composition and soloing, I just can't get enough of the incredible speed of the down-picking required in these songs (not strummed!) Also note the drummer is playing the hi-hat sixteenth notes SINGLE handed (well, cut time eighth notes, but who's counting?).

Love the Gem, I've seen one of those in person with the disappearing pyramid Inlays. Are your last 4 frets scalloped? Also, love your P5!

Yup, they are scalloped. Came that way from the factory! Along with the locking nut, Dimarzio PAF Pro's and Floyd Rose tremolo. I HATE the Floyd Rose, though. Nothing but trouble.
Thanks! P5 has more patina now (read: rust).

Yeah, the Steve Vai GEMs come that way. I have Floyd rose Trems on about 5 guitars and love them. They require much more work and patience, but it's worth it for me. I had the Dimazrzio PAF Pro in my Ibaznez, pretty good neck pickup. I also put the Dimarzio Super3 in the bridge. Sorry to hear about the patina

What's up Dan! I didn't know you had all that cool gear! Neat stuff.

i'll give radiohead the "best of the worst" award... i can deal with their music if somebody else is playing it, but it would never be on my ipod. just not my stylee

i mean, my roots stem from a melodic death metal band in which i played guitar... so i can listen to the likes of suicide silence, the acacia strain, august burns red, and all types of metal variants (i love metal-style guitar) to the pop-punk i grew up on (saves the day, blink & even modern stuff like four year strong) to some-what "emo" (taking back sunday/all time low) to alternative (REM/Weezer/foo fighters) to the classics (acdc/queen/beatles/doors/aerosmith/zeppelin/pearl jam, the list goes on) to reggae (i go to the caribbean every year, so island music is native to me) so bob and damian marley to REAL hip-hop... NAS is my favorite, hands down.

definitely open minded, i just can't stand generic rock andor annoying vocalists... also ambient/lack of a structure s*** in a song...
