Guages

Gotta do whats best for yourself. I'm all for supporting vendorsm especially ones who are "sponsoring" our club. But hell not for that much of a price diff

Thanks again. I think I am gonna get those gauges for my birthday on the 8th, that will be more motivation to save for the actual boost!

boost/vac is a must, the oil pressure is a good idea, but make sure its electric not mechanical. A mechanical one will flow oil into the cabin of the car. Which is bad if it springs a leak. personally i'd get a wideband, because an egt still has to have a sensor, and doesn't seem nearly as effective as wideband.

very, very good point...........on the elect oil pressure. it would suck to have a oil leak inside the cabin of your car.

egt is a great way to tune but it is difficult. pretty much if you are running lean your egt's will be higher.....rich they will be lower. the hard part is finding out what is correct. i have mine to tune plus it gives me an idea how hot my turbo is so i know when it is safe to turn off after a long run........cooldown time w/o a turbo timer,..

boost/vac and oil pressure are pretty much definates. My main concern is whether to go wideband, a/f, or egt.

I understand wideband is the most accurate, but it seems way too expensive to me. Also, I dont think I need that kind of accuracy if I wont be tuning on the fly. I still dont really know exactly how EGT works, but it seems to be right in the middle of these two for accuracy/price. And A/F would obviously be nice because of the price, but is least accurate. If it was accurate enough to let me know if I was running DANGEROUSLY rich or lean, I think that is all I would need

but you can buy the narrowband a/f guage........ save up abt 150 and convert it to a wideband while still using the same guage. mine is being done soon so i will post a how to if their is not one yet

of course, i'm a genius. the best thing about the wideband isn't that you'll use it to tune ont he fly. Its that is shows you HOW rich, or HOW lean. The narrowband will show you that you're rich or lean, but not by how much.

FOR REAL! I have the mechanical oil pressure guage and lost my car for a day and half over a .20 cent fitting. I was repainting my guage pod and when I was putting it all back in, the damn oil line came out of the crimp ring that keeps it inside the brass fitting. Oil everywhere in the cabin, and I obviously couldn't drive it until it was fixed. From experience, go electrical. LMAO! (thumb)

no prob. it is pretty easy actually....... i will post the price, o2 sensor to buy and whatever parts you need. next week or so when i get it done. i have a bunch of parts in the mail, 36 way adj coilovers to install and a bunch of parts to go to paint (spoiler.......not telling which one, rear bumper, front bumper with molded lip.....)so in the next month i have alot to do..... but the wideband is on the list

i knew it had to have happened to someone here.............lol

old rear, i dunno..........adding it to the hood, trunk, spoiler and other miscelanous(sp) parts i have lying around. the front is the bumper i have on it now. just had a bunch of rockchips in it. i am leaving for a month long det (navy thing) on april 10th so i dont need the bumper while i am gone.
the eibach ground control i have on now is sold already.

I have another question about the boost gauges. I found the difference with pricing on them.......I didnt know there was a mechanical and a full sweep electric boost for autometer cobalt. What are the pros/cons to these? Is mechanical a bad way to go?

mechanical you run a vac line from the engine bay all the way to where you mount the gauge. An electric, you mount a sensor in the engine bay and just run a wire to the gauge.

i concure, i dont think their is any reason to run a electrical boost guage, mechanical is fine, just put a rubber gromet around the vac line where you go through the firewall.u dont want a vac leak
