Guages

Ummm, it can be purchased used i guess. The sensor can go bad, but i don'w know how many miles before something like that happens. But theres no reason you couldn't buy the gauge used and if need be, buy a new sensor.

I think a wideband is the most important gauge i have in my car. I would not boost without one. I like having the peace of mind knowing my motor isn't going to go boom

So Ken just told me I could go with an EGT which is still more accurate than a A/F guage. I have a lot to learn about all this cuz I had no idea those were used for the same type of monitoring

EGT will help show air fuel, but its not really accurate, and by the time you know you're running lean, it might be too late.

A regular air/fuel guage, likw the autometer, is just a narrowband. Basically it can only tell you if you're above or below stoich(14.7). It can't accurately tell you what your A?F is.
A wideband has a different sensor that changes the voltage sent from the sensor to the gauge into a real time A/F ratio.

So I just got an email from the guy boosting my car. I asked for his opinions also on gauges. he said he likes to see boost, oil pressure, fuel pressure, and EGT. He says I wont need wideband because my a/f mixture wont change once he has the car tuned. He also says if I were to use a wideband, to NOT use AEM due to the range (it only reads to 11.0:1)

Innovative makes a really good wideband. See but your A/F DOES change after its tuned. Remember me driving around with my laptop trying to retune on the fly? Impossible without the wideband. I'd still get a wideband, but if i did it again i wouldn't get the AEM because of that fact. I would want something that showed richer than 11.0-1

Another bump for a mispelled thread title!

My main concerns now are:
1. Is autometer a bad brand to go with?
2. how necessary is a wideband when i wont have tuning software anyway
3. What 3 gauges would be most necessary? (guy boosting my car said boost, EGT, fuel pressure, and oil pressure, but I only want three unless I can find a good single gauge pod, then I would go with 4)

nobody has anymore input?I have actually spoken with a few more people that I trust who say Autometer is a great brand to go with, so I am leaning toward the cobalts for sure

Why wouldn't he give you the tuning software? A fuel pressure gauge can be located in the engine bay because you don't look at it that often, that would mean you could put the other three in the car.

Well, i did find an A pillar pod for $25, and a single pod for $6, so if I can find a good place to put the single pod I could just do that. I dont know about the software though

I'm glad i am the only one who has opinions on what gauges you should get...
haha, i know, I just keep bumping it hoping more people would see it.....maybe if i had spelled the title correctly....

my autometers work great. all except for the a/f guage since it is a narrow band. think about this. most competors use autometers. they cant be that bad. i have the autometer phantom boost,volt,a/f,pryometer and nx press. plus my tach. i have not had problems with any of these guages. they are well worth the money imho. btw i have a greddy ebc that show boost pressure and it reads exactly what my autometer guage reads. so i know they are correct
i say get the autometers and get ur turbo on now
