so i acquired one in trade the other day.. and cant find much about them. it is a gt3371. says good for about 250-350 on a sr20. it is a t25 flange and wondering if i should try to run it for s****. just wondering if any one has heard more about them thanks.

Sounds like eBay. Kinda sad that a turbo that big can barely make the power of a garret 2560/t28

It won't be worth your time, to make it spool up enough to be in its efficiency range the fs won't be able to handle that kind of power. Unless you go forged and then I wouldn't want an eBay turbo on it

its from redlineperformance. it power is between 250 and 350. i am forged and going for about 300 so thought this might work. if not realy just going to sell or trade..

never heard of it, and ive been around these forums a lot longer than you. garrett does make a 3271. but very rarely used.

go with a t3/t4 hybrid. much more common.

I will bet money it's a Chinese journal bearing aka eBay. Nothing is wrong with them just make sure its balanced and keep a magnet in the oil pan just in case

eBay turbos are fine as long as the oil pressure too them is good too much will damage seals too little will destroy bearings and send metal into your motor

it could be legit and the OP made a typo. stop putting words in his mouth. im not saying it is legit, im saying that youre assuming its not because its not ball bearing and a designation you recognize. garrett makes a LOT of turbos.

[edit: didnt see the redline performance note. never heard of them. link?]

If you spent 5 minute on google you would find out garret doesn't make a gt3371. But they're all over eBay. Redline is a seller of eBay stuff

There was no assumption of anything. I know garret still makes journal bearing turbos. I never even said anything bad about eBay turbos as long as they're properly cared for and are rebuilt every 5-10k miles

I've spent alot of time the past few weeks on researching turbos, flow charts, etc. and haven't once came across this turbo if that tells you anything. And I've been through everything from eBay to garret hks Borg Warner and oem turbos

rebuilt every 5-10k miles

lol not for all of them. my experience with a ebay T40e has been great.

imo people put too much importance on spool time and run ebay turbochargers too close to their max output.

from my experiences if you are looking at a chinacharger then you cant afford great tires or a built trans anyways, so a turbo that is a bit over sized actually works out best on the street with average/cheap tires as it delivers a very linear power curve which helps with reliability of the trans, mounts and with traction.

in the real world i guess it depends on your wants/needs/budget but imo stay on the large side. who cares about low end power when you are racing. on standard gearing you are hardly ever under 3k when cruising on the highway in 5th anyways so as long as autoX isnt your thing then its really not the end of the world to go a bit larger and have a decent mid range power band and really pull hard up top.

go with a t3/t4 hybrid. much more common.

This, I used to love having no lag, then I realized how much of a difference lag makes on traction. Plus when you want to break out slicks there's antilag setups

And as for auto cross just run a recirc setup instead of vta

dont get fresh with me, i said it could be a typo. garrett makes a gt3271 and its a similar turbo in size and construction. i also said ive never heard of a 3371 or redline performance and they could be ebay garbage vendors -- which it sounds like it.

people cant even agree on how bad this turbo is. get a different one. solved. people who know a lot about turbos can get ebay ones to work if they know how to read a flow map, and some people have suggested performing work on the internals to gap it and modify the journal bearing. if you dont know what youre doing and dont know about the turbo, then dont use it.
