I thought it had an internal wastegate, but Prodigy is selling his MAM Sleeper kit with the GT28R and it shows an external wastegate. What am I seeing wrong?

i guess i'm trying to ask, are all GT28R turbos external wastegated? if so, how are people using them on their MSPs?

well most msp use gt28RS which is a diff turbo anyhow. but no not all gt28r are external. u can get them on atp with internal.

I'm trying to put together a first gen sleeper kit currently. From what I've learned, the gt28r that was used was internally wastegated, but had the actuator removed and the flapper welded shut. I would like to pick this turbo up also, but I know you want it. I want a gt28r or rs for my kit...

well that turbo was def. being used with an external wastegate. Now if it does have a flapper you might be able to work it out.

I have the same kit. Your turbo kit uses the external wastegate. Your TIAL external wastegate is in the box in the 2nd picture you posted. It's the silver UFO looking thing that is NOT the B.E.G.I. FPR. It says "TIAL" on the side. In order to use the external wastegate, your internal wastegate flapper rod was probably welded like the picture below to keep it from opening.

Thanx Linux, but I was confused on whether or not the GT28R was internal or external. People are dropping them in on the MSP setup, which uses an internal wastegate. Prodigy is selling his MAM Sleeper kit, which shows an external wastegate.

I just need to know if I can buy one with an internal wastegate.

What I was telling you is yes, those turbo's come with the internal wastegate, but for this kit, it was setup to use the external wastegate. Since the internal wastegate flap rod was welded so that the flap wouldn't open, you won't be able to use the internal wastegate with that housing unless you can cut that weld. Then you can mount the internal wastegate actuator to the compressor housing, and use the internal wastegate.

i told u above mr. it was availible either way :) get it from atp they are a great company and reliable. if u dont want to then call HPF and ask them if they are external or internal since its not specified.

sorry, i forgot. thanx for the insight.

called HPF, they only carry it with external wastegates. He mentioned something about a T3/T4 housing with 4-bolt? He said it kinda fast, so I missed it.

I know I need the 5-bolt flange to fit the stock S-pipe. Is that a particular exhaust housing?

yea u want the 5 bolt non ford style. otherwise youd need a new DP. go here.

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/m...OD&Product_Code=GRT-TBO-004&Category_Code=GRT

for the housing u have a choice of : .64 or .86 ar

.86 is what mam supplies. it wil have more lag but lots of top especially at 15+ psi, or the .64 will spool it faster but you lose it up top. if ur gonna run 15 psi id go .86

the first option is what u want as far as turbine flanges go (5 bolt and t25 flange) if your using a msp mani or anything msp related.

for the compressor housing option at the bottom just put standard and u will get a 3" inlet that u can slide a coupler on.
