The manifolds got dropped off at powdercoat the other day as planned... they estimated a week and a half to 2 week turnaround. We'll see how that goes with all the different colors on this batch.
I picked out all new colors from the new catalogs.
"Extreme Chrome" is now called "Ultra Chrome". Same overall look but less grey and more mirror. They are going to shoot an extra coat of clear for us to give a slight boost to the shine.
For the flat black ones I went with "Black Magic Flat Matte". This was as close as I could find to a factory plastic part, but overall it isn't much different from the black ones in the first batch.
"City Sparks" is what I chose for metallic red. The only way I can describe it is apple red mixed with fire engine red for the base, with a mix of pearl and gold flake for the second stage. Clear on top to finish it. Ends up kinda candy-ish, and it had the best mix overall when I took it back and forth from sunlight to shop light.
The gloss black was also a tough one. Ended up choosing "Misty Lava". It has almost the same mica flake that is in the black MSP's, but it's covered by a triple stage of clear so it looks piano-ish glossy in lower light.
Black chrome replica with powder just doesn't work in all lighting. I found one that looked close in the straight sun but was just really a dark grey in lower light. The guys down there also do plating and they agreed that you can't replicate black chrome with powdercoat.
