Hi, I just purchased Magelan RoadMate 500 plus, does anyone know if it works in cloudy and raining weather? Because i tried it and doesnt seem to see where my location is , i need to enter it in manually, i aint sure if i will keep this gps system yet, i have 15 days to return i'll try it again for this week to see if it works.... Does anyone recommend another gps system instead

My Magelan Meridian and my Garmin 310 work fine in couldy rainy weather. Your roadmate should have no problmes

How long does it usually take for it to find a satillite? and is it like that even for the most expensive gps systems out there?

I have 2 Garmin handheld units, I use my 60CS in my car and have had no problems with it in bad weather. I think depending on the antenna your unit comes with, it can take a few minutes to find satellites, especially if it's the first time you have used the system. My 60CS usually finds satellites within 30-40 seconds. My E-Trex Vista takes a tad longer. Be sure you have a clear view of the sky (if you can put it on your dash all the better) because some units are sensitive and if their reception is blocked they may not find satellites. Be careful if you plan on using tint in your car as it can affect satellite reception as well.

If you're looking for a handheld unit that is also good for use in your car check these out:

I own the 60CS and have nothing but positive things to say about it. These are color units and have internal memory of 24 megs (a little small) 56 megs (not bad) and 115 megs (sweet) respectively.

I use GPS every day, weather has nothing to do with it, if you lose one satellite you will aquire another. I have never seen my GPS when I do not have three aquired. Most Gps can aquire 12 or more.

When you first get a GPS there are steps to do to start up. The GPS has to know what lattitude you are at to know what satellites to aquire, it should do it automatic.
Go into the start up menu, if that will not work hit it real hard with a hammer and buy a map.
