GPS question

I have a 2014 CX5 Touring without GPS. Can this be upgraded to include GPS? I suspect not but, thought I'd ask. Thanks Ed

You mean navigation, right? I believe it can be added, but you have to change the head unit. Someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong. Why not just use a smart phone and stream the navigation audio via bluetooth to the existing head unit. Works like a champ with my iPhone.

If you have the touchscreen you just need the GPS unit and SD card. It installs on the left side of the dash, where the useless cubby is. It is expensive for it what it is, I prefer using my iphone with an app and a mount.

Read the reviews here and elsewhere. Many people hate the Mazda nav system. Go buy a portable - TomTom, Magellan, etc. You'll get more features, easier to update, you can use it in multiple cars and you'll save a ton of money.

Check out Med Center sponsor at top of page. My 2013 gives good traffic info, good maps on screen and interrupts music in front speakers to make direction announcement.

I do have a small Tom Tom GPS unit that I use but, it has only a 3" screen so I use the voice feather only. paris1: I need more information as I'm not sure I understood what you meant. Ed

Maybe what he meant is that by being integrated it will override the radio volume when giving directions.

The lane guidance graphics are pretty good on the Tom Tom... normal driving graphics aren't that great but Traffic features do work well in the unit.

It will even warn you of traffic cameras and not too difficult to update but not the cheapest to keep updated these days.

Have had no problems with my Tom Tom system in my 2015 GT. To upgrade is very simple; pull the SD card and take it to your computer with the Tom Tom Home program, slip it in and follow the prompts. Bing- Bang- Boom.
