Good tires

I have read a few threads about tires for Proteges, but I am looking for a good pair of All seasons does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I'll second the Conti's. I was forced to get all seasons this time around. I've had em for maybe 500 miles, and no complaints so far.

i got a new pair of tires for sale, that are all season i paid like 600 dollars for them lol, pm me and ill give you details

Stay away from Toyo Proxes 4, they're absolute rubbish.

Just out of curiosity, why do you say that?

I've had them on mine for a year now and I've been quite happy with them. I didn't have high expectations, but I was very impressed with the shallow snow/ice traction.

In summer the tires are smooth and quiet on the highway.

Bear in mind, I'm coming from the stock Dunlops so anything is going to make a difference... but still, these tires seemed to get good reviews. Obviously there are way better tires, Michelin's were highly rated, but I didn't want to spend $1000+ for a set of tires.

I've used one set of Toyo Proxes 4 on my Pro. They are relatively expensive, annoyingly noisy, dangerously slippery in the wet, and have terrible treadlife (I might get 15k). The Proxes 4 have no redeeming quality--their dry grip is average at best. The Falken Ziex ZE-912 I had previously outranked them in every way. Simply, there is absolutely no reason to buy the Toyo Proxes 4 over other tires.

Consumer Reports published a review of UHP tires a month after I bought the Proxes 4 and they gave low ratings to them as well, for the same reasons I've noted. The Falken 912's did very well in the test.

If you need decent performance in the snow, neither the Falkens nor the Toyos are a safe choice.

I've criticized the Proxes 4 a few times on this forum, and I hope it helps fellow forum members avoid wasting their money.

I have the Conti ExtremeContact DWS. Definitely happy with them. You do sacrifice a little cornering stiffness, especially when new. They seem to have stiffened up a bit after 5k. The sidewalls are pretty soft, mainly due to the compound. All season tires have to compromise somewhere, traction in all conditions is great, price is good too.

If you never have to drive in ice or snow, I really liked the Falken Ziex 912 in dry and wet, scared for my life in the snow/ice (they were ready to be replaced though)

I've never bought a toyo tire, and never will. Soft, sloppy tires suck.

912's kick ass, I'm about needing to replace mine. They have been excellent, grip is stupid high in dry, good in wet. They lapped Grassroots test track .6 seconds slower than re01r's. 'Nuff said.

Wait, not 'nuff'. I can't wait to get some fat beef on there, some 595rsr's or evo's, but I live in socal. ;)

Fair enough, I would agree with the above. Unfortunately, there wasn't much choice here when I was shopping for tires, I also wanted to stick to the stock size. I'm also not an aggressive driver, (I had the stock Dunlops up to 55,000km with about 4/32" of tread remaining) and I don't drive the P5 in the winter when there's deep snow. My typical daily commute is less than 20km round trip. The Proxes 4 do have a bit of sidewall flex, but for my use they serve their purpose.
