Going Turbo, By Summer of 07

you'll still need some sort of ems to run the msp setup!

do you wana fly out for a weekend and help me build it along with 4 other people :P

and how many PSI''s you running and how much horsepower do you think your generating?

Same here... I had set aside $2700 for the turbo kit and that's already disappeared.
Not including the NA stuff I've already installed.

the only mods i've done were RB exhust and AEM SRI so that's 460.00 so far and those go hand in hand with turbo kit so I still go another 1500-2000 to go

I have the OBX headers which, unfortunately, do not go with the turbo kit.
At least I can keep my RB axle-back.

The exhaust definitely but I highly doubt the intake will work with the turbo - especially if it's meant for the N/A Protege. Case in point - I have a K&N CAI currently but that's going away as soon as I get my turbo in.

I'm going to look into going the MSP turbo set up I think I could wing it with 1500-2000 easily

I'm already at 2500, with quite a few of the primary parts being used.. used mani, turbo, and fmic/bov/pipes. Once I figure out what I'm doing for oil/coolant lines, I'll be at or near 3000, and that's with the MSP ECU (doesn't work for automatics) which I got for $250.. any piggy back tuner is going to cost at least double that from what I've seen.

^^ yup. plus if all you have is the racing beat catback, you'll want a new midpipe too.. the stock one is extremely restrictive in turbo applications. I've spent $1000 on my exhaust so far, and 200 of that gets thrown away when I turbo (my header). It was 250 just for the corksport turbo downpipe to mate from my turbo to midpipe too :(

it'll all be worth it.. I hope

Why don't yu just run an FMU and leave the boost low. The MSP set up will work fine for your application of low boost and an auto. Flypinoy is running that set up without an intercooler an the car runs fine so far. PM him to see what he did, he didn't spen too much either at least not for the parts he's using for the set up.

we should meet halfway between Rochester and Chicago (so 6 hours away from each.. Ohio? yuck) and do two turbo installs at once! :D

I say ya'll hurry up and be finished in a few weeks and come a little further south - say PA and then we can have 3 P5's to turbo (ughdance) LOL...

Ive put about 10K in my MSP and i still dont have a built motor. It would be way more than that if there was a labor charge but so far ive done everything myself. It is a very expensive hobby, but i love every minute of it. My car is starting to grab some peoples attention so maybe ill get sponsored or something but i dont try so that probably doesnt help. Keep in mind im also rebuilding a 90 miata, A 93 SVX and maintaining a 04 MZ3. These cars are killing me..lol. I wouldnt have it any other way though.

And here I thought I would be the next turbo'd P5. Must work faster, must work faster...

the only thing I haven't ordered is oil supply/return and coolant supply/return stuff. Figuring that out this week :)

omg! you had me at SVX!!!!

:D yeah my 2500 is just on 100% turbo specific stuff :P and that's just to get up and running with the most basic-ish of setups (+fmic)

Nice, I went with the stock MSP setup (thanks snowblazin). It's not pretty but it should do the job. My only concern is the oil return I have. Justin (snowblazin) had it threaded for a MAM tapped oil pan whereas the one I have just has a nipple. I know I can just pull the adaptor out but I'm fearing that the return will be too short/large, etc. Oh well, only time will tell and once I start getting my gaskets in things will start to take shape - I should have the entire exhaust manifold/turbo/s-pipe/j-pipe assembly together by the end of the week.
