Hello guys and gals, I have a big favour to ask you. I need as many people as possible to fill out my survey. I cant tell you the exact reason why I need you to fill out the survey for 30 days. All I can say this: the results of this survey will be of benefit to all of us sport compact car enthusiasts.
This is a rare opportunity to actually have your voice heard by the automotive industry. Please dont ignore it!

Excellent handling, fit and finish, shifter feel, clean but aggressive exterior styling, attractive wheels with low-profile performance tires, 0-60 time under 8.5 seconds, room for a few friends

What would turn you off from buying a sport compact car?
More show than go, not enough differentiation from the standard compact car on which it is based

If you could design the perfect sport compact car for you (be
reasonable) for the same price range as the vehicles listed below, what would it be like?
High revving and naturally aspirated 4-cylinder engine (or V6 under 2.5L displacement), RWD ideally, sedan body style, short overhangs, well-bolstered bucket seats, excellent (or easily upgradeable) sound system, excellent shifter feel (MUST be standard transmission), mellow exhaust note, excellent handling with little body roll, curb weight under 2800 lbs (or in that region).

Dislikes: No standalone ABS option, rear end styling

Mazdaspeed Protege - Likes: All the goodies on it. Dislikes: Limited availability.

Ford Focus SVT - Likes: Looks good, decent power. Dislikes: Could handle better (sourcing Euro spec parts?!? Please.)

VW Golf GTi - Likes: German build quality, good power, handles decently. Strong aftermarket. Dislikes: Pricey

Mini Cooper S - Likes: Cool car, small, handles well, strong aftermarket, designed by BMW. Dislikes: Uses a motor from a NEON!

Dodge Neon SRT-4 - Likes:None. Dislikes: Its a Dodge.

Handling, power (though it doesn't have to be a horespower monster), body styling, ergonomics, ease of driving (don't have to use a lot of muscle to turn/brake/shift/etc...), and if i were looking to buy it...price.

If it looked like every other car out there, if it were unconfortable and/or not easy to drive, and if it had a high price tag (you can find soo much out there with very little investment)

It would have the power of the Acura RSX Type S, the handling of the Mini Cooper S (or Mazdaspeed Protege more preferably), weigh in around 2000 - 2200 lbs, and have an aerodynamic body with few protrudences and a smooth flow.

Acura RSX-S: Good power and decent handling, seats hold well, but not made for long drives. A little cramped on the inside, but not too uncomfortable.
Chevy Cavalier Z24/Pontiac Sunfire GT coupe: never been a big fan of Chevy/Pontiac. Don't care for the body styling of the Sunfire and everyone and their brother, sister, neighbor and cousin have a Cavalier.
Ford Focus SVT: Looks like the Civic and Matrix, nose is too short, doesn't handle bad, but could be better. Decent power.
Honda Civic SiR: Looks like the Focus and Matrix, nose is too short and could use much improvement on the handling. For it's size, it's a bit heavy.
Hyundai Tiburon GT: Underpowered for a 6 cylendar, body styling is better than previous Tiburons, but still not very appealing to me.
Mini Cooper S: Decent power, handles well (stiff body), looks OK but not very aerodynamic (too boxy), relatively light.
Mistubishi Eclipse V6: Not as omnipresent as the Cavalier but a lot of people own Eclipses. Can't comment on the handling, but I haven't seen too many at autocrosses.
Toyota Celica GTS: Unique body styling, decent power and decent handling.
VW Golf GTi: Handles decent, decent power.
Cavalier Z24 sedan: see cavalier + more weight
Dodge SRT-4: It's a Neon (not a big fan of Neons) everyday body styling (not very original) and has OK handling. Good power.
Ford Focus SVT 5-door: See Focus SVT + more weight.
Mazda Protege 5: Good body styling, not like everything else, average handling, and low power. Comfortable.
Mazdaspeed Protege: Decent body styling (could be a little more aerodynamic), decent power, good handling, comfortable. NO CRUISE CONTROL, could be lighter, but don't think it can be beat as a production car in it's price range.
Mitsubishi Lancer O-Z Rally: Decent handling, Decent power, could be lighter.
Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec-V: OK handling, Decent power, looks a little too big.
Pontiac Vibe GT/Toyota Matrix XRS: Looks like Civic Si(R) and Focus, and never cared for the quality of Pontiac (too many bad experiences).
Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS: decent handling, 4-wheel drive (good), decent power, comfortable...Not STi
VW Jetta 1.8: See Golf GTi with better body styling and more weight.

2 door coupe, double wishbone suspension for great handling and road feel, turbocharged & intercooled dohc 4 cylinder, moonroof or some other open-top feature, sporty styling - low to the ground with long flowing lines and modest spoiler, dics brakes - no ABS, intermittent wipers, cruise control, cloth seats with leather interior refinements, shifts like an Integra TypeR.

Dodge SRT-4: Turbo, lots of power, great handling, design could use some help but overall an impressive car.

Mazdaspeed Protege: Turbo, nice power, good handling, excellent design.

Ford SVT: Great handling car, upright unappealing bubble design that looks like an updated AMC Pacer. Fenders are horrible. Typically poor american car interior fit and finish.

Nissan Sentra SE-R: Good looking, limited slip diff!

Decent amount of power, great handling, abs, lsd, roomy enough for me(I'm 6'6") aggresive styling, fit and finish of interior and exterior panels, decent wheels and tires, availablity of aftermarket parts, and reliablity.

Poor fit and finish, lack of abs, over priced for what you get, lack of power(all show no go), crappy tires, poor styling.

Just like the Mazdaspeed Protege. Maybe so better tires but that's about all I would change.

Acura RSX Type S- Fit and finish is good. Power is good. Pretty good exterior and interior styling. Typical japanese reliablity. A little cramped for my size

Mazdaspeed Protege- The most well rounded car for the price range. Great power. Very little needs improvement. Impressive from the factory.

Nissan Sentra SE-R spec V- good power. Pretty good fit and finish. Dislike the fact it looks like all the other sentra's. Rear styling needs help.

Subaru Impreza 2.5RS- Has AWD!!! Good handling. Needs more power. Not a WRX!

Ford Focus SVT, Chevy Cavalier, Pontiac Sunfire- Bland styling, poor fit and finish, lack of power, lack of reliablity, just all around crappy little cars. Also everyone and their mom has one. All look just like every other focus,cavalier, sunfire!!!!!!!!

R./ No real motorsports commitment from manufacturer, or if the manufacturer just brings the cheap versions to the U.S. leaving the good stuff for Europe and Japan.

R./ - Acura RSX Type S : Sooo many ot there!.
- Cavalier Z24/Pontiac Sunfire : Absolute crap!.
- Ford Focus SVT 3/5 doors : Dangerous car from don't mind making dangerous cars' company.
- Honda Civic SiR : Corporate Japanese who think we don't want/cannot handle Type-Rs.
- Hyundai Tiburn GT : Company seriously improving but still underpowered V6. Good they're in the WRC (may surprise us later!).
- Mini Cooper S : Very nice hatch but a bit pricey!, has too much demand right now but is good to know European tuners will be working a lot that car.
- Mitsu Eclipse V6 : I believe lost a lot of support from local tuners... a bit pricey!.
- Toyota Celica GTS : Interesting car, don't really know it.
- VW Golf GTi : Not even a shadow of the original hot-hatch concept. Quality is below par (maybe since it's no longer German-made). Hope R32 will be German!. Good tuning from Europe.
- Dodge SRT4 : Looks like it will have very good performance figures. Doubtful about long-term quality / finish. Odd & old looks.
- Mitsu Lancer O.Z. Rally : A HUGE joke from the Japanese!!!, they still believe we like it and the press misjudged it just because they sold more than expected... What a joke of a pseudo-sports-car!!!.
- Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V : Good price/product combination but don't know it that well, can't say more.
- Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix : Too boxy and odd to fit my hot-hatchback premises.
- Subaru Impreza 2.5RS : Good looks and 4WD but may be a bit pricey, don't know really to be able to judge.
- VW Jetta 1.8T : Not into my preferences for looks, same quality issues as with Golfs.
- Proteg MAZDASPEED : Great hot sedan, with exclusivity halo. May be a little bit too well tuned from factory to make one decide tweak its suspension...
- Proteg5 : I'm sooo happy with my car!, great hot-hatch looks and excellent value for the money. Still would've liked to have the Japanese Familia 4WD option...!

Good Styling, Good Horsepower (at least 170hp), Good handling, Within the price range(24k-32k CAN), 6 speed, power everthing, roof, at least 16" wheels. Ex. RSX Type-S

Everything that is inverse than I mentioned above.

Everything that I mentioned in the question #1, then it's perfect, if it's AWD, then it's really perfect. EVO8 and WRX STi will be the the perfect sport car, but they are too pricy.

P5 is not power enough, give it at least 150hp
Speed, even it's a turbo 170hp, seems not enough, boost up to 200hp!!
2.5RS, the new front is just too ugly, prefer the old look.
O-Z Lancer, 120 or 130 hp?? not enough power....
SRT-4, still getting a shadow of a neon....we will see...

Performance - Handling and acceleration.
Reliability - Once chosen I have to be certain its not going to fail

What would turn you off from buying a sport compact car?
Ugly, too slow and no handling, too small

If you could design the perfect sport compact car for you (be

Other then some issues with the suspension peices, idle problems and an impossible to deal with ECU and being to slow stock I wouldn't change a thing about my MP3

Focus and Neon are death ugly
Lancer has no real performance
Eclipse is a styling statement in the wrong direction

Hey Grimace its funny that every time I read your posts, I here Grimace talking and saying it. But anywho, back on subject.(laugh)

Section 1: What do you look for in a sport compact car?
I look for something that's really eye catching, such as wild colors and/or an aggressive look. I want it to be something that most people do not have. It must have a decent size engine and a sporty interior.

What would turn you off from buying a sport compact car?

If everyone has it. For me it has to be a limited production. I would want people to be like, "Oh, it just another...".
Almost forgot, an unreasonable, high sticker price is also a turn off. Well if the car isn't worth it.


If you could design the perfect sport compact car for you (be
reasonable) for the same price range as the vehicles listed below, what would it be like?

It has already been done. The VW R32

But this is my idea; A cross between the MSP and a GTi. For some reason I love 2drs and hatchbacks. It will definitely be a LIMITED EDITION. It must have eye catching and aggressive colors i.e. black, yellow, and red. It has to have AT LEAST 150whp to the WHEEL/GROUND (hp depends on the weight of the car too, but this is just for most SCC). I don't want to be all show and no go. It also must have a sporty interior. The MSPs interior is a good example. I like the new SRT-4, but their interior is crappy from what I've seen. It must also have an aggressive and low stance. An upgraded suspension is nice. Can't foget the tunes. It should have a decent sound system too.

MSP: I love the interior and the colors it comes in. The exterior of the car is beautiful and it handles like a dream. BUT the MSP could use some more power.
VW Jetta 1.8T: 3 words. BEAUTIFUL GERMAN DESIGN.
Lancer O-Z Rally: The rash on my ass looks better than that car. It must have set the record for the weakest 2.0L ever made. I have beaten one with my POS 1.6L protege and I thought my engine was trash. ( But I do love my pro)

I'm 18, in my first year of college, and I LOVE cars. Their is nothing that can get my adrenaline pumping like cars, well except girls. I love ALL expressions of vehicles. I love muscle cars, I love imports, and I love big trucks (off-roading). (scratch)I still don't understand the beef between imports and muslce cars. Its just stupid. My goals are to complete my IMPORT with at least 300hp and be on the cover of Super Street (Big dreams, huh). My next goal/dream of mines is to own a Shelby GT 500 Mustang. Gosh, how I LOVE that car. That is the best car EVER, EVER made.

SVT-some questions about reliability but a very competent car that should do really well with some aftermarket support.

SIR-underrated and written off because of the looks, with the usual aftermarket support it will surpass many of the cars on this list in performance categories.

CooperS-it screams autoX to me and should be an all round good car and fun to drive.

SRT4-everyone seems to overlook how close it is to the MSP in handling. Crazy power, great handling, even for a first yr car the quality and reliability will be good.

MSP-great all rounder, creature comforts included. ONLY reservation is rumours of drivetrain and motor already at the edge at current power ratings.

SpecV-if 1st yr quality issues have been solved it is the budget/performance winner at many$$ less than the competition. Handling is good, LSD is good, I like 4 doors...

30-Male, not really brand loyal, I like most of these cars and could almost any of them and be content. I try to keep an open mind, and dislike those who don't. AutoX and do quite well with my current car so I would not look for a car that would hinder me much in that area.
