Get Leather From Mazda or AfterMarket?

I'm curious what everyone's thoughts on this are. The advantage of going with aftermarket is you can get a nice 2-tone full leather seating surface for roughly the same price...

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, anyone know where in Toronto one can get leather installed aftermarket on the Mazda 3 for a reasonable price?

The only thing I would caution w/ after factory leather is the fact that if you were in an accident and the side airbags didn't go off. I'm not sure how this works, but one of the dealers brought this to my attention because they had the car I wanted but it had cloth seats and I wanted leather. Basically, if you have after-market leather you'd have to do it on your own and not through the dealer because they don't want to be liable if you were in an accident and the side airbags didn't go off. This is only the case for the side airbags and obviously not the steering wheel or passenger side airbags because leather isn't really an issue there.

I also wonder if there was an accident and the side airbags didn't go off if your insurance company would then contact Mazda and if someone at the insurance company discovered that you had after-factory leather, they might not pay your claim.

They've assured me that they stitch the side panels in a way that it won't effect the side airbags... However, I don't think the Canadian models have side airbags.. can someone correct me if I'm wrong please?

That's true, we don't have SABs up here.

Have you tried the Auto Trim Shop on Woodbine and John in Markham?

No I haven't tried them. They offer aftermarket leather and install as well? Any other info you could provide would be great. Thanks!

I have had my dealer looking for over a week in the mid-west for any color Mazda3 Hatchback with DVD Nav and Leather. After finding out that none of the dealer's in a 5 state region had one on the lot (uhm) , they found one that had everything, EXCEPT leather at a dealer in Louisville, KY. They offered to have after market leather seat's installed by a local shop for $1,350 US.......I don't think so. I already had an execllent deal worked up with them, so we substracted the $590 factory leather and I should have my car, san leather, in Velocity Red Mica tommorow. (yes)

I will probably join the group buy for NWAutoLeather.com. Question, if I get the seat cover's from them, what's a fair price to pay to have the front and rear seat's covered?

I don't know very much about them, but I will be going to them when I want to get my heated seats, they have an aftermarket kit for $550 for a pair of seats! All I know about them is that they've been around for quite a while and they do all sorts of accessories (stereos, upholstery, etc.)

when i bought my mz3 it came with everything i wanted (everything but nav), except the leather i wanted. so the dealer sold me the car as if it had leather 590 more and had the orignal leather seats it comes, with shipped from cali. a week or two later it came in and it was installed. so dont let your dealer rip you off.

Leather group buy

HI GUYS:
Look in the group buy for leather a couple of threads down. It is just as good quality as the OEM seats, and you can get it two tone color. Very nice. Don't dealer rip you off. Buy your leather aftermarket if they don't have it at the dealer, it's much nicer with the two tone. I'm getting mine with perforation in the middle inserts, looks cool
