Gear lever movement

I have 59 miles on my car and the gear lever like to move around. I am use to my MR2 that has no movement at all, so I would like to know if this is common or not?

yea a lil movement is common. dont forget the MR2 is rear wheel so the shifter drops right into the tranny while the MSP is front wheel and it has linkages going to the tranny

true the MR2 is rear wheel drive, but the tranny is connected to the engine just like the Mazdaspeed. That is why I was wondering if anyone else has this movement (I would say about 1/2 inch side to side under load and when braking).

Oh, now I understand. Thats the tranny/engine shifting slightly under load/deceleration. My car does that too. I think its fairly normal for most cars. Stiffening the motor mounts takes a bit of that out I think.

I had a loaner P5 while the dealer checked out the trade-ins we had. I could have rowed down the street with the shifter in that P5. The one we ended up with wasn't nearly as bad, but it was all take care of with the Shifter Bushings. (and later the Short shifter)

are you referring to...
when you are in gear you can move the shifter back and forth a little as if it was in neutral?

or

when in gear and accelerating, if your hand is on the shifter you can feel it move as the engine "surges" ?

or something else entirely?

When I am driving and I give it a little gas or a little brake or go over a bump, the gear lever "shakes and jiggles". I want to get the bushings anyway, so that should fix the problem?
