2011 M2
I have a 2011 M2 with a bit over 40,000 miles on it. I recently did a 413.7 mile trip and used 7.21 gallons of gas yielding 57.379 mpg.... All highway miles and the revs didnt exceed 3000 rpm...I did wash and wax her just prior to the trip. the gas was Shell high test. Has any one else gotten similat results ?.....

That just doesn't seem possible. Did you make any changes to the car other than the premium fuel? Was it all downhill?

I get ~10MPG flat out at 100mph so my experience is the complete opposite.

Closest I've gotten was 40MPG highway through a fairly hilly part of PA. I could definitely see somewhere around 46MPG being possible with mainly downhill or flat road and higher tire pressure, but 57? Dear lord.

Hi El,

Ahhh, you always get great gas mileage........<LOL> Don't sell that car!!!! You either got the "special one" or your driving technique is perfect. My technique is closer to Derrick's

John

Best I've ever managed was 43, and that was from north georgia headed south on the highway(mostly downhill).
Lately I've been very eco-minded and have been averaging near 40, but once I loose my patience it goes down closer to 30.

I don't think my car has ever gotten close to that good on gas...I've ran 35ish a few times with my work commute when I really focus but once I hit real highway time that all fly's out the window...had a 100mile drive to a car show last week and did a wonderful 26mpg....shouldn't caravan with my friends anymore lol.

I used to average 38-40, but since I got a new job and there's a bit more city driving involved it's been closer to 35. Highest I think I've gotten is 42.

My engine, tires, wheels and drivetrain are stock. Oil is Mobile 1 extended....Every so often I try to see what I can get for mpg. I time the stoplights, shift no more than 3000 revs, on a flat surface go from 1st gear to 4th or 5th asap.....on the highway drive between 55 and 65...I dont drive as such very often but I do drive smoothly....My brakes and tires should last over 1000,000 miles......I rarely use the brakes......Try and practice my suggestions & Im sure your mpg will improve as well as your driving ......Im as surprised as well at the figures......Im older than you people and more experienced....

and that makes my technique much more satisfying

I'm 60..... I have to go faster, the end is closer.....

lol! You'd better install a turbo then, you won't be getting anywhere fast in a 2 (excluding auto-x, kart tracks, and tight windy roads).

ElZoom - how old are you?

Nomatter the speed or rpm's, at a steady rate on level ground my car will not come close to 50mpg. Maybe your 2 got a skyactiv drivetrain.

I really just don't understand how it is possible. Even with additions to my car to make it have better mpg I could never get it above 50.

....Im 61....you young guys dont know the meaning of pacing....mines a 2011 so its probably not a skyactiv

I like my speed to be 4 times my age so my gas mileage gets closer to my age...But I'd rather have fun driving and spend a bit more cash than have the most boring and longest drive of my life.

I got into the high 40's once while on a road trip driving though Montana. I recently reset my average MPG on the trip computer when I started commuting further to work and I'm averaging 37.6 mpg.

.....My M2 is gassed up, tyres at 40psi, headlights cleaned & body waxed for minimum drag, antenna removed for minimum drag to boot, also added a bottle of GumOut for enhanced clean fuel injectors....I will report back on wednesday on my @500 mile trip.......adios

In all fairness, we young guys know the meaning of pacing until we get stuck behind you 61 year-olds! I jest, of course...I have a total lead foot so I know that's hurting my gas mileage. I get right around 32 MPG. I know I could do better if I had a lighter foot.
