Gauge Pod

just wanted some opinions about which one looks best because what i thought i would not do is maybe what i will end up with.
Still cant do the install cos i'm waiting on 1 more din adapter for the back side cos i will have to clamp them in place.

so which is best, 1st 2nd or 3rd?
4th pic is just to show how well i think the piece fits and matches the dash.

EDIT: Just had inspiration about the visors, i can install them backwards see 5th pic.

Thanks for comments, much appreciated.

3rd...

The visors will really help visibility during the day... That is what should drive the way you go with this. If you can see them during the day without the visors.. don't use them.

if you cant see them properly without.. then use them.

did you make those peices that hold the gauges in or did you buy them? and i like 2 if there is no glare or 3 if there is glare

gauges are held in by a size 1 din adapter but if your asking about the 3 small pieces (pic #5) they are the visors inverted which tilt the gauges towards the driver. I am gona work on this a bit more tomorrow to see how good i can make it (looks real bad in the pic I know but better in person).

EDIT. answer to question below is yes.

def liking the 2nd pic ... say no to cf unless it's going to be a unifying (sp?) theme

but I agree with abaddon ... use the visors if there's glare because if you can't see the gauges, they do you no good

I gave myself a couple of options by buying two pods. 1st one was the triple pod that sticks over the dash and 2nd was the additional radio piece. I think i am gona use option 2 with a DIN adapter.
A first impression is that the quality is way up there, it looks just like the factory peice. If i am not happy when its done i will use both these parts with some resin/bondo (whatever its called) to bond them together and try to make one seamless dash pod painted cosmic blue. This is not preferred as i think it is to "Boy racer" but it is still an option.

some porno for the lads.

Is the single din dash mazdas oem product?

Do you or anyone have product number?

That is much better looking then Lotec or something..!

No it is not genuine mazda but my opinion that it is 99% as good as the original part it is replacing.

It was purchased here www.thespeedline.com

Where did you get the 1 din adapter for the gauges?
Killer install BTW.

Thanks, I just got the gauges installed tonight, I ran the wires last week and will terminate them sometime this weekend.

Got the din adapter here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Carb...005QQitemZ150148232665QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
2 din adapters are needed as the brackets on the back of the gauges are not perpendicular to the din slot so you have to clamp the gauges in place using 2 din adapters. Had to file the adapters down just a little and painted them with a textured paint.

I also bought these pieces which wont work for this application so save your money.

(doesnt fit this panel)

(not as advertised as it not reversible- I called them and let them know what I thought, they said they would change the description but havent yet)

Does anybody install A/F Gauge in Mazdaspeed3, i need some instructions in installation..?

Does wire come directly to O2 sensor..?

meha, did you find that the gauges were difficult to read pointing straight backwards (pics 1-4)? I think they look nicer that way than they do mounted in the backwards visors, but if they can't easily be seen, it defeats the purpose!

*Also, it's difficult to tell from the TheSpeedLine pics... if you use the 1 DIN radio adapter, is your original dash piece preserved? IOW can you replace the original piece and not have holes in your dash after the gauge install, like you would with the triple pod?

the O2 that goes right out of the downpipe. you can see it from the passenger side of the engine bay. you tap into i think it was the yellow wire. since it gives info in milliamps, a gauge that reads voltage wont work....well it will....it just give you messed up readings. mine did anyway. the graph your stock O2 sensor gives is not much short of a flat line. voltage graphs have large ups and downs which is why the readout is so....well...readable. thats why most people just install another bung to install another O2 sensor when they replace their exhaust or DP.

Just tap into yellow wire??Cut yellow wire and put gauge sensor wire there??..some gauge instructions say that you should connect the sensor wire after O2 connector what goes to pcm..??

Let see if i can install the gauges on weekend...!! (eekdance)

Wait, I got lost in all the talk about center counsels and air vents. The poster who had his gauges set up down around the ashtray area, did we ever figure out how to do that?

I do have glare issues in bright sun light but the rest of the tmie it is great
