Gasoline going fast

my car is drinking gasoline like water!!! this past weekend i went to jacksonville, fl which is like 200 miles from my house and it took a full take to get there, had to re-up before and about 20 minutes from my house i had to re-fill the car!!!! gas isnt cheap either!!! it take about $24 to fill my car!!!! crazyness!
whats goin on? is there something i can do?!

You should try to reset your ECU..that should take the quirk out of the tune thats eating up your fuel..

nope....and i'm VERY good w/my maintence (oil change, tune-up, brakes), etc....so i'm just a lil' confused?!?!

yeah. mine eats alot more gas then when I first got it..

by the looks of it, you are all experiencing all my problems now..

I used to drive around the island.. could go about 350 miles before it hit 'E' now I can only hit about 250 miles before I have to refil.

try resetting the ECU by removing the negative battery terminal cable... then tap your brakes 10 times.. then reconnect it. see if your mileage goes back up.

your computer stores your driving habits to a degree. that is why you should clear it, then drive easier and less aggressive.

I was thinking the same ting(dirty air filter etc) but I think the drop in mpg is too drastic..Definaltey reset your ECU and see where t puts you

How do you know if your MAF sensor is dirty? And how do you clean it?

^^ You don't. I think it is self cleaning by heat. It is a VERY thin, small piece of metal so if you do clean it you will most likely break it off, even just using a q-tip.

I also believe it is coated in a material so using a spray cleaner like brake cleaner is also not a good idea.

Hey pdhaudio, is your MAF still functional all this time after cleaning it like you did? Just curious since there are some naysayers and I'm about to try this on my car.

This is what happened to me when I tried to clean mine. I got OWNED. Jason is right. It is self cleaning.
