Gas tank/gauge problem

First of all, my gas guage seems to be off. I can drive 140 miles before the thing moves, or it will move to a 1/4 of a tank having only driven 40 miles. Simultanously, when I have tried to fill my car the last three times at three different stations, I was not able to put more than a gallon or so in the tank without the pump shutting off. Both happened at the same time. I am taking it into the dealership next week, but wanted a heads up. Anybody know what this could be? Thanks.

the lever in your tank could be stuck but then again I can't see that happening. There's a little floater on it to let the gauge now how much gas is in the tank. But if for some reason it could be stuck. My next guess would be the guage itself.

haha my gauge does the same thing...when the tank is full it doesn't go down for about 100 miles then i can practically watch the gas go down whlie driving after the first 100 miles

They said it was the neck or nozzle leading into the fuel tank. IDK.

I would tend to think that the slider may not have as smooth action as it did when new. Is this hi mileage car?

ONLY 66K! They said that the gauge was a result of the fuel pump and that that was a seperate issue.

Ah!

After 5 days at the dealership I finally got my car back. It turns out it was the slider!!!!!!!!! Thanks!
