FS-ZE engine build

I am trying to build my mp3 engine into the fsze engine. I just want to clarify what all I need for this conversion is the pistons, intake manifold, and intake camshaft. As far as I know thats all that is required. Anybody do this before?

Also, anybody gone for the engine swap alone? If so, were you happy with the gains and contruction?

Cheers,
moose

One question,.....why? The FS-ZE only has about 10 extra hp than the MP3. But if you still insist on having an FS-ZE, it will be much cheaper to just buy one. I also believe that the FS-ZE has less torque than the normal MP3 because of the high compression. I may be wrong though.

My opiniuon, don't waste your money, spend it on a turbo.

ben-
First of all I thought the fs-ze was rated at 170hp?? Thats a 30hp increase. Secondly, I already have HC pistons and I want N/A power, I am not going turbo. Nothing against turbo, its great really. If the intake manifold and intake camchaft are all I need, they are only about 900 more. THe Fs-ze from corksport is 2 grand; I find its much cheaper to build my mp3 engine into the jspec. Plus I like my spiffy engine cover =).

Let me know if I am wrong on any of this.
Cheers,
moose

Well, I hate to tell you this, but that 170hp is in some sort of metric standard. It's like 170ps, not hp. Converted into american hp, it's about 150 to 155hp. Yep, that's all.

ben if your right the that is the same as the MP3. LMAO
i guess the only way to know is ask LinixNinja. he has the FS-ZE and he could tell is it made a big deffrence or not.

Isn't the J-Spec ECU also different to account for the higher compression?
Also mp3moose...As for keeping your engine cover all you would have to do is take off the vavle cover with the studs and transfer it to the new engine.
mp3moose...Are you going to go all out and get a port and polish? What are you going to do about the fuel managment?

Yeah, You are right because i remember Linuxnija had an extra, but it just has the Flying M instead of the MP3 logo.

170ps equats to 165 hp sent you an e-mail on the piston install. The ECU does make a difference but i'm making 142 whp with my setup and i'm going to install the lightweight crank pully and underdrive pullys and i shoudl be over 150 whp.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. Ch, do you think a greddy emanage would help that ecu power problem?
moose

I doubt the emanage would help much if at all....what we need is the advanced timing that the J-spec car has and the more aggressice fuel maps.....i'm thinking of seeing if I can get a full wiring harness and a ECU off the Sport 20 and lengthen the wires to adapt it to our chassis.

Where is it possible to obtain an ECU? I know they are OBD I so that would be great for the guys with Header issues

I have both in my MP3 right now, and I will tell you from experience to get a turbo!!! If you get the FS-ZE engine, you may or may not get a good engine (like what happened to me), and would have to get some expensive work done down the road to fix problems. Also, you would have to get tunned correctly to even see any serious gains. I dynoed my FS-ZE after I got it at the beginning of the year, and had only 120 WHP, and 121 WTQ!
(sad2)
I have to tell ya, I ended up having to get that engine overhauled (cylinder re-bore), and I dropped my compression to the US-Spec 9.1:1 in preparation for the turbo. All I can say is since I have installed my turbo, I have smoked Mustang GT's with no problem! I even hung with a Trans Am! All this at 6 psi. I will be turning it up to 8 psi soon as I have the time, and at least a 2.5 in. exhaust system! If you want some real power and torque in your 4, get a turbo!

Thanks again guys, but sorry...no turbo for me. Sounds so sweet to hear about turbo mp3's tearing up mustangs and such, but I am all N/A baby. CH, let me know if you get anywhere remaping the fuel problem.
Cheers

will do man I might see if Terry can hook me up with a stand aloen with mircotech when he gets the plug in play unit finished and maybe I could use it on my NA app.

www.probetalk.com go there for fs-ze motor stuff trust me fs-ze is a probe engine. I'm still currently a probe owner waiting to trade it in for Mazdaspeed Protege.

if any of u havent heard of this site, a lot of people consider it one of the greatest online car communities ever. Not dissing this site but some people on here sure act very immature sometimes. I all recommend you visit it sometime.

Trust you? hahaha thats funny

What other great facts do you have for us on this supposedly ford engine. I guess the mx6 is ford built with ford engines, and that all of the current proteges have ford engines too?

I better spread the word about this newfound information about our cars!!

Easy there kiddo, I think he was just trying to say that the 3rd gen 2.0L is the same engine as the 4cylinder probe, which is useful news to some...

... Ahem ....
