Friggin' Brakes!!!

Alright, well I just installed my new brembo rotors and hawk pads on my 02 MP5 and now everything is all screwed up. I did everything by the book and still their all jacked. I even turned the wheel during install to ensure the rotors were not dragging on the pads at all. But when I took it for a test drive it's like their just sitting on the pads and rubbing like crazy!!! They make a god awful noise and sometimes feels like the pad is just laying on the rotor. Any help please post ASAP!!!!!(rant)

oh, also I took the clip off for the e-brake and re-installed and now the e-brake handle has no tension on it?

i've seen posts about having to adjust the rear caliper with a small screw...the screw controls the position of the pads so it is correct when the ebrake is applied....

I did it, I made sure when I installed the rear pads to turn the allen key until the piston touched the pad then turned back a quarter of a turn just like the manual states

That happened with me, you just gotta play with that screw untill you get some tension on it. It was wierd, it had no tension, moved it slighty, and it worked...

well I bled the brakes some more and it has seemed to help but there is still a slight squeak coming from the front brakes. Is this normal with aftermarket rotors? I just want to make sure that this is common or not with anyone and what they tried or did to remedy the problem.

The sqeak's not the rotors, it's the Hawk's.(thumb)

does that mean that the pads are too big or something? I have installed many brake pads and have not had this problem before. This is my first time putting aftermarket rotors and performance pads together?

Bleed the Brakes, then if that does not work... Take it to a competent mechanic.

If you didn't take that thin backing plate thingy off from the old pads and put it on the new ones I have heard that it can cause squeaking.

Most brakes should come with that plate Riveted to it. Normall Stainless Steel. If they are Hawk Pads they most def will have that attached..

Yes they have the pad already on the pads so they are good there. This sucks because it's a good setup for a budget minded brake upgrade ya know? I even have goodridge lines to complete the package.

Which Hawks do you have?

Did you clean and relube the sliders?

My Hawk HP+ did not come with any extra backing plates. I had to re-use the stock ones.

I don't remember which ones they were, but I do remember they had the backing plate because when I applied the brake quiet stuff to the back of the pads they were there

Is it all four corners or a specific wheel?

Try checking the dust sheild that goes behind the rotor. You may have bent that in the process of changing rotors.

It was only the fronts. I ended up taking everything apart, re-cleansing everything and lubricating all necessary parts and bled the living piss out of the brakes. The left front squeaked a little the first time I took it out but it stopped after and it hasn't done it since. I checked all the rotors to see if there are any grooves being formed but everything looks good now

I have the same setup all the way around - Brembo C/S rotors with Hawk HP+ pads & ss lines. 1st of all the ss lines made more difference in performance than anything else-I did those after pad/rotors-made pedal much better due to no swelling rubber. Anyway back to pads/rotors...There was lots of noise until the pads & rotors gelled. After a couple of weeks they were all settled in & have been great for over 25k miles with half or more left on the pads & rotors are holding up fine. I am not shy with driving habits & they have not been babied. One thing I did on the front was to not clip the lines to the factory position on the strut. The little anodized thing chaffed the cable into leaking from steering/shock action. The second set of lines are not clipped into factory location but are secured to the same place on strut up higher-it doesn't force such a sharp bend on the line coming off the caliper. Had no issues with ebrake tension & never messed with it.........

hawks are god awfully noisy. mine make my car sound lie a bus while braking. i guess Its normal
