just get the thumper.

take this from the only person in the thread who actually HAS the kit :)

Yeah you do have the kit. You also have been into turbos for a while, you have a built block, you have an E6X, etcetc.

I honestly still can't believe this thread even exsists. Why would you spend $4500 one something you cant use! The Thumper is going to be laggy as hell compared to the stock turbo, and not even make much power until you're high in your power band, whereas if you keep the stock setup and get a forged motor, ECU, and an FMIC, you can make more power than you would even want to think about making with a stock block and a huge turbo.

My theory is that you want this so you can show off and say "I have the best of the best" I'm the same way with some things, trust me. But this is a little ridiculous for an ego boost.

My suggestion is still...
Keep the MP3 (or get the MSP if you must, but since you're die hard commited to the thumper, that seems like a waste), get a block built (this will take a while, probably a few months, if you didn't know), get an ECU (AEM if you're really serious), and tune that sucker to see what kind of power an NA motor can put out with the help of a really competent ECU. Then down the road a ways, if you still even want to modify this car, get the Thumper, and by that time you will have enough experience with tuning to know what you're doing with this motor.

whatever i do i need to have it done and installed before school starts. once that happens i will be too busy to even sleep until december. i am an extraordinary busy person. working 40 hours a week, having a g/f, and being an architecture student is about the dumbess thing anyone can do. adding onto that my hobby of the proteges and im one ****** dude!

Sounds familiar. Undergrad or Masters? I'm hitting the M Arch...working the 40 and married on top of it. Only thing dumber than that is the two guys I know that had kids during Thesis last year!

Anyway, I'd say get the motor built now. Doesn't make sense to have a 350 HP turbo setup if your motor can only handle mid 200's. So, built motor...then when you have a little more money..some sort of EMS. Then you can start turning up the boost. More supporting mods...more boost...more mods...till you max out the stock turbo. Then, that's when I'd look at a new turbo kit.

Course, I haven't done anything major like this, so I could be wrong.

you will be crazy to go thumper on stock internals... I blew my engine by just turning the boost to 12 psi with a hiboost FMIC and stock turbo... I'd say go MAM motor with Engine Management

Why not get the block, a cheaper FMIC (hiboost, begi, custom's SMIC, etc) and still have $$ for AFC/FTC?

I vote motor and fmic!

this coming from a member that was one of the first here to have a problem and have to rebuild his engine. (shrug)

You can get a lot of power out of our motor with the stock turbo and mani based on other peoples numbers, and with a built block you can run that without fear of having it blow on you.

Its a lot easier to ADD parts to make a motor faster (if you know its rock solid, aka BUILT and blue printed) than it is to have to remove all your go fast parts, (that you might even ruin if you blow your motor) just because you blew your motor running those parts and then deal with down time of not having a car because you don't have a spare motor lying around.

lol take it from some that have been thru the blown engine situation and get it done first then after you can mod more with out any haults.

dont fix something unless it is broke. Period.

get the thumper and pick up a spare block from a junk yard just in case.

Also, my motor never "blew" it started to knock and it was an uneven wear on the rod bearings.

Also i do NOT have any fuel management other than msp FLASHED ecu fuel pump and an AIC controller. 11.1 afrs at 13 psi on thumper kit.

Everyone says the msp ecu is crap blah blah.... i am running it right now for perfect afrs below 11 psi on the thumper. Above 11 i use an aic, but the ecu is great! All it needed was a larger turbo.

Your car will be fine, but if you want to go forged, then do it. It would be the "SMARTER" choice, but i really dont think it is necessary right away as long as you can keep the boost down. UNless you have a FCD, you will hit fuel cut at about 5 psi on this turbo anyways.

TO be safe, forged first. BUt really it is up to you. Would you rather spend 3000 now or 4500 now?

I am not gonna argue with people, i have both and i have been through what everyone is talking about, yet no one takes my opinion worth a grain of salt. its cool. Go forged first. Conform to popular opinion :)

actually, take it back. Smartest thing would be to sell then damn car and get something else.

This car is a pain in the ass. Dont waste your money like i did lol.

im running unichip at 12psi on stock internals for like 5 months now. even hit the track a couple times. no problems yet. but i just ordered my shortblock. i figure-why get a bigger turbo, when i havent even maxed this one out yet?

But, without you guys that already showed us the limits of this motor we would have to learn the hard way. For that I thank you .

+2

thats true... i dont know why anyone would downgrade to a msp.

I told you James..........Built Motor First. Get the built block and get Carls' Haltech unit, and boost the hell outta the stock gt25r!! The stock turbo is a hella fast spoolin turbo, that CAN put out some nice numbers for the time being........get tuned and sit at 275-300whp till you save up for the Thumper.

azian6er, I'm not trying to ignore you dude, but you seem to be ignoring the situation and saying what you would do. This kid is (apparently) constantly on the move and busy, so having a motor blow on him is not the same as having a motor blow when you have a garage and anther car to drive, etc. He would be in one heluva tight spot without his car, so it's seems that going forged first is the only way to go for him
