azian6er, I'm not trying to ignore you dude, but you seem to be ignoring the situation and saying what you would do. This kid is (apparently) constantly on the move and busy, so having a motor blow on him is not the same as having a motor blow when you have a garage and anther car to drive, etc. He would be in one heluva tight spot without his car, so it's seems that going forged first is the only way to go for him

lol u dont know me.

i am a college student, live in an apartment with no garage, no spare car, etc etc... i ate the bullet when my car broke and it took 3 months to get it back together.

I agree it sucked ass not having a car so i would rather have planned it out and had the motor built first.

But changing the block isnt easy either... that will take prolly a good 5 days or so especially if you havent done it before.

Go forged and e6x thats the safe way..

what about forged and a sleeper kit?

too much money for him at the moment. MAM's built motor and the Haltech unit / MPI Tuner are just about all he can get right now. Or if he goes for the Thumper kit, thats all he can afford.......no EMS or anything.

If he gets the block....it'll be in over the weekend (smoke)

......but i told him since hes at it, he might as well get some work done on the head, the usual P&P.....and maybe some SS valves.

If that's all you can afford, then I recommend not doing anything and saving up for next year. The worst thing you can do is turbo on a budget. You simply cannot get cheap and expect reliability and performance.

why not buy rods, BEGI fmic, complete the exhaust(DP) and EMS? Im sure the stock T25R at 14psi with tuning would be fun and would cost less i think. thats my plan, now i just need rods + ems.

I was forced to forge my motor but if i`d have known better I would have bought the thumper first....It`s so pretty....I wish I had one... (hand)

go forged 1st ........ this is coming from a guy who blew his engine @~11psi on a stock turbo =) so 10psi on the thumper kit will most likely blow it up pretty quickly

Why not get the FMIC and an EMS so you can make use of what you already have? Then build the motor if you arent happy with the power you are making.

but he can always upgrade.

i am forged, but i know that at 8-9 psi tuned he will be PLENTY fine on the thumper kit.

I love how everyone has an opinion but no one has ever blown an engine or even pushed their car to a point where they know it will break. Everyone is a bench racer of sorts here because everyone syas "blah blah blah blow up".

i am telling everyone that at 8-9 psi and good tuning ( ie mpi tuner msp ecu plus aic controller..) he will be fine.

It will be fine.

guess what, my brother blew his engine at 11psi with a begi kit. I have blown the engine in my car without the aid of a turbo . There are plenty of people in this thread that have blown engines. Besides its CHEAPER to get the forged engine first, rather than get the thumper, blow it after a few thousand miles and have to get new everything, you would even run the risk of putting metal through the turbo and that is never pretty to see

Pretty much what he said, since you like MAM, go with their fmic, downpipe and midpipe (you said it already has a greddy catback), and get mpi for your engine management. Have a little fun with it while you save money to buy their block later on down the line.

buying a thumper without a forged engine is like an old 80 year old man that can barely see driving a ferrari, its a huge total waste of power :D

the thumper is huge overkill for a stock motor, do yourself a favor and go forged and then do the turbo kit later, you can run the stock turbo close to 300whp with good tuning I think, and by then your going to need to be dumping money into an lsd, clutch, and possibly gears and driveshafts

I am not putting my sleeper kit on mine until I get the block done, and I am actually debating if I am even going to do any of this unless I replace the gears at the same time. Taking all of the tranny out again to do this would be a huge pita.

uhhhhhh yea ! and let me tell you, the wait to have it fixed sucks hehe

actually, take it back. Smartest thing would be to sell then damn car and get something else.

This car is a pain in the ass. Dont waste your money like i did lol.

Agreed!

You will be faster if you get the forged motor and run the stock setup then you would be to run the stock motor and the thumper set-up.
Contrary to popular belief you can get good power out of the stock set-up by just being smart about it.

ok now im thinkin of instead of getting the whole engine block just getting the Oliver Rods and CP Custom Pistons package (that will help stregnthen my engine right?) the MAM FMIC kit, downpipe, and the haltech from hellcat. That way I can tune my car.....have the nice sounding "whoosh" and the look of the fmic......... let the exhaust flow better with a downpipe (and prolly a strait catless midpipe)......and streegnthen my engine a little (really cant afford a blown engine right now. If i have any money left over i'd get the tubular manifold from MAM.
The main reason i was lookin at the thumper is i really wanted the fmic kit, tubular manifold, and downpipe NOW. and all that added up im only a little distance from the rest of the thumper kit. Plus yes i have a huge ego and wanted it boosted. I was already WELL aware I would get NO WHERE NEAR the potential of the thumper. I just wanted it for "the biggest and best", the looks of it, and that it has the fmic, dp, and manifold with it. that alone is like $2800. yes thats far from $4500 but if i sold my turbo kit (since i wouldn't need it anymore) i would be hella close to being able to afford the thumper. thats the only reason i was thinkin of getting that now.

and to answer whatever other questions peeps asked............yes i am EXTRAORDINARLY busy. after selling the mp3 this will be my only car. NO I CANT KEEP BOTH!!!!!!!! NO I WONT SPEND THE MONEY MODDING THE MP3. Cuz the money im getting is just extra money from the loan for the msp. so basically i have found a way to finance my modding. you may think im dumb for it but i really dont care. im not an idiot when it comes to money, i used to be an accountant and i handle money very well. So if i were to keep the mp3 its still NO BOOST for me. I cant SAVE money right now and i cant wait a year because next summer i am going to school in Italy for a while and that will cost everything else i save up from here on out. This will most likely be my last modding for many months so i really want to make it good. oh and to the guy who asked, i am an undergraduate. ill graduate either fall 2007 or spring 2008 and then hopefully ill be off to grad school in one of the ivy's.

No offense dude, but the more I read your posts, the more I think of a 5 year old kid throwing a tantrum in the grocery store because he can't get the cookies he wants. You just seem to want this stuff because it's the best and you can brag about it, but at the same time you aren't ready for it IMO. I mean you're paying for this stuff with the overflow money from the loan you got for the MSP, which makes me think you don't have a lot of money tucked away for when stuff goes wrong. Like Tekkie said, things are going to break if you boost your power. That just happens with these cars, as it does with any cars. Every week there's a new thread about someone stripping a gear or fracturing an LSD or cracking a piston, even with a built motor.

You just strike me as the type who doesn't have the time/patience required to deal with the problems that WILL come up when you own a car with 3x the stock horsepower.

Just put aside your ego for a while and think this through. Is this really the smart move right now? You're moving to Europe for a while next year, you can't afford to have a broken car before that, and chances are that once you've saved up enough for the thumper kit and get it installed, you'll be tired of the car and want something new.

It's your car and your money, so I won't presume to tell you what to do, but just think it through before you sink 10+ grand into a car like this.
