Im absolutely convinced that the carpet will wear out on the footrest before long so a strip of rubber matting off eBay, stuck at the bottom with tape and underneath with velcro;
I only bought about a square foot and made a cardboard template first then cut it with scissors. One side of Velcro sticks it directly to the carpet. I cut it longer than needed so I could anchor it at the bottom with duct tape under the mat.
I have something similar for the winter months when I pull the ebay aluminum footrest off. I used a rubber stair tread from homedepot and cut it to fit. the stair tread has an edge on it 90 degrees to the rest so there is a little over hang to better protect the carpet area. hope that makes sense
I like it ! solves a problem without spending a lot of money, ingenuity at work ,
my problem is snow in the winter so needed something to catch all the melted snow ,
so had to bite the bullet and spend a little money for the weathertechs, they cover that footrest area as well,

Thanks Anchorman, Just found the exact same "non slip stickers" in a local shop and applied it with Velcro. Looks good and will probably outlast the vehicle.
I cut mine from a used old rubber floor mat and put velco on the back. It has been there for almost a year and is doing great. Cost me nothing because I had velco from an old foot splint my wife needed when she broke her ankle.
