Folding Mirrors

Thanks all for your research!!! Will be presenting this info to dealer to repair the malfunctioning power folding mirrors on 2019 CX5 GTR. Couple years ago during an oil change appt, mentioned the malfunctioning power folding mirrors to the dealer and he was either unaware of these TSBs or played dumb. IIRC, $1900 was the out of pocket cost so took no action.
The problem is, they likely aren't going to do this on your car for free as it is well out of the warranty period. TSB's are not going to be done on a 19 model for free (unless they give you a goodwill repair). If it is taken care of, please let us know. A TSB isn't the same as a recall. Interseting to me is the TSB only seems to extend to 2020 but as far as I know there were no improvements/changes to the mechanism after 2020.

I believe I read somewhere that in 2020, during factory assembly, some tape was added to the housing behind the glass to further lower the risk of water intrusion. I don't think they changed anything with the motors or gears used.

My car has the same issue, left side mirror is not folding anymore. After reading this thread and looking at the TSB 09-010/21, it seems that my car falls under this bulletin ( assembled in December 2019). So how is this working? You just go to the dealer, any dealer, let them know about the service bulletin and they will fix the mirror for your free of charge?

Yes, PROVIDED your car is still under warranty. If not, it'll be on your dime.

@ADS-B, if the car isn't under Basic (aka "bumper-to-bumper") warranty anymore, you can pursue a goodwill repair or partial coverage, but be prepared to pay out of pocket. Alternatively you can try an independent shop to see if they can source replacement components and R&R them for you at a lower cost. I was able to find replacement motors available on mikstoreph.com for $70 shipped to the USA, and replacement gears available on eBay.com for like $12.

This would definitely be the way to go.

It would be great if someone who does this posts a report that could be pinned so that others could use the info. I am not in that situation yet, fingers are crossed on this one.
I HATE plastic gears.
(Many eBikes use plastic gears, even the 'big' names like Bosch.
I saw an anatomy video of a newish Bosch drive unit and the gears were already showing signs of material releasing shards of material. Great.)

After a week at the dealer, the cx5 is back. The cx5 qualified for the TSB and diagnostics were performed identifying a failing passenger side motor. Both driver and passenger mirror assemblies were replaced per extended warranty. $1500+ total charge if not for the $0 deductible extended warranty.

Hopefully your warranty paid for itself. I too purchased an extended warranty on my 2019.

Hoping I will never have to use it.
