FMIC + Radiator

I installed my hiboost fmic yesterday and somehow accidently poked a hole in my radiator. I can't seem to find a straight answer as to will a p5 radiator work in a mazdaspeed with this fmic, or is there any other radiator that will work other than the little stock one it already has. If i have to i will order a new mazdaspeed one, anyone know if you can order them offline? Thanks

IIRC the P5 one will fit if you remove the stock intercooler, and as long as the HiBoost FMIC kit doesn't have any pipes going where the stock IC used to be.

might as well try and get an aftermarket rad made for msp that fits in stock location .
i cant remember where i saw them but there are a few for about 350$ im not sure how your fmic is routed , you might have to watch out for the rad thickness to allow room for the pipes

A P5 radiator will not work with our MSP FMIC. Any direct replacement will work without any clearence issues.

A P5 radiator will fit if you go with our P5 intercooler kit which involves a little cutting on the sides.

if u can find a radiator shop...most can do a custom setup for u....but i think awr or someone has a msp radiator already

yep, what everyone else said.. even though it removes the stock intercooler, the pipes would still get in the way of where the radiator goes

The pipe that goes from the intercooler to the turbo is shaped almost in a U, so when i put it through where the stock intercooler was it got hung up on something in the front, and when i pulled it, it broke loose and the other end poked a small hole right next to the fan on the engine side. Kinda a pain to do the install alone. I had surgery last tuesday on my chest and im all sticked up and its hard for me to move, had someone been helping me or if i were 100% this mistake would have never happened. I guess if i can't find a aftermarket rad i will just goto mazda and order a new one. Thanks everyone.

Dang, your nuts. Working on your car shortly after surgery! (eek2)

How did you feel about the install otherwise? I will be doing the same project next weekend and have learned hearing of issues from other members is extremely helpful. So if you have any good advice please share.

As for the radiator

3rd one on the list. Measure yours, then call and make sure it's the right fitment.

Good luck!

670$ for a radiator is alittle more than i wanted to spend. The install wasn't so bad but my kit came with no directions at all, so figuring out how everything goes is a task in itself. I had to custom make a bracket to hold the radiator in place. The hardest part is getting the front clip on and off. The screws in the fenderwell are a real pain in the butt. There are still somethings i am unsure of since i still can't get any directions. Like the second fan that was on the old intercooler, i took it out cause i don't see room for it, maybe i can place it somewhere else, i don't know. All the brackets that came with the kit, i didn't use any of them because i didn't know where they went and none of the pics online show anything about the brackets. The car runs stronger now no doubt about that, when i shift to second it feels like the rpm's stay higher. The looks of the intercooler are awesome as well. If anyone does have the instructions and can e-mail them to me i would greatly appriciate it. My e-mail is speedie114@hotmail.com. Thanks

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but the other day when i did the install when i first started the car the vaccum gauge was only reading like 5-10, then i reved it up and the BOV worked and the vaccum went to 20 or so where it normally is. Today i was driving around and the vaccum won't go past 5, and when i push the gas even alittle it starts making boost. Now im having ideling problems. Anyone know if this can be caused by a lose hose, or maybe the BOV? I thought maybe the BOV was sticking. Maybe when im in better shape i will re-tighten all the hoses. Anyone know what the problem is caused from? Thanks.

Make sure you have the BOV vacuum line connected correctly with no leaks.

Hey man, I don't know where you live, but here in Vegas there are several shops that repair radiators. They do excellent work too, and that sounds like a small hole. What they do, is flush the radiator out, and weld the fins shut wherever you poked your hole at. I took my motorcycle radiator down to a repair shop, had it back the next day, and it works great. Keep in mind it was all bent out of shape and had several holes.

IMO opinion, it's the most cost efficient way. It'll probably cost you 30 bucks.

HiBoost do you have any pictures of the p5 intercooler setup. You mentioned that had room for a p5 upgraded intercooler so I wanted to see what it looked like (also how much.)

Thanks

i just went and did some measurments,

the awr competition radiator is 13"tall-21"wide-3.25"thick

the stock msp radiator is 13.5"tall-21.5"wide-2"thick

so it would work cause the two main dimensions are actually .5 inches smaller, but the thickness is 1.5 inches more. Looking around the engine i think this extra thickness will be ok, shouldnt be a clearence issue.

Thanks Emode. That's good info for everyone. I wonder if that 1.25 extra is too deep with the fan and plumbing behind the radiator (scratch) I may go outside and have a look myself.
