I did somw thread chasing, but no one has really said anything about this. Putting an exedy clutch in sometime soon and I am thinking about also buying a fidanza flywheel. Do our cars run ok with one, and how about starting out because I do a lot of in town driving. I'm curious if any of you have one, and how do like them.

heard nothin but good things about the exedy clutch. however i believe there might be a problem with aftermarket flywheels and exedy clutches. i'm not positive but the best person to ask is JDM Sam

Why would he be the best person to ask? (uhm)

because he's the one that helped exedy prototype the clutch. does that answer your question?

I would not recommend an aftermarket flywheel. I have had a bad experience with my fidzana. I will be going back to stock!

The people that I've seen have problems with them are modded cars and are pushing them to hard. Don't do the 7 pound, go with the 9. It's still light, but still heavy enough to help with balancing. I weighed mine and it was like 23 or 24 lbs. When I put the 9lbs in it was like I got a hole new car and Im not turbo.

yea when i had to get a new flywheel, Nick told me to not go for the lighest. I guess that's why. I ended up going with a spec flywheel. I won't have the car back for another 2 weeks or so, and i wouldnt really be able to compare since i haven't driven it since december. Even if it came back stock to me, it'll be like getting a whole new car. Should be fun. Sorry im a bit excited so dont mind me going off topic

Are you also using a spec clutch? I have heard mostly good things about spec and exedy. I hate my fidzana flywheel, but I would hate even more to spend money on the stock one. Let me know how your car feels when you get it back!

Thanks!

Do you have the 7 or the 9-pound flywheel?

7 pound, not everyone has issues, but I certainly am. I am not blaming it all on my flywheel? Maybe the combo of my CM II and Fidzana 7 pound wheel is not right with each other? I need to find a good combo that can handle no more than 250whp? (dunno)

I used to have a 1989 Probe GT Turbo, and I had a CM clutch installed. The car put down about 165whp and over 200 wtq. The clutch worked wonderfully, so this leads me to believe it's mostly the flywheel. Can you do the install yourself? If so, it might be worth it to switch to the 9-pound flywheel before you go buying a new clutch.

Yeah i got the spec stage2+ clutch and spec flywheel which i believe to be 9 lbs. Spec needs tender care with break in, which is why some people have had problems with spec, improper break in. We'll see. Worst case scenario, if it doesnt hold up with all the power i'm going to be giving it (i will be near if not over its max of 330-340 wtq), then i will look into getting an exedy.

I wish I could do the install myself. I may have to either go to stock flywheel or the 9 pound like you suggest.

Thanks!

I have searched all over and went to their website(its all in Japanese.), but were can I get more info on the exedy clutch. I would like to get this clutch and a stock flywheel, but what are the specs? Are there stages I, II, III, etc. and how much power do they hold?

Crossover Performance for Exedy
Mental Addiction Motorsports for Spec

Let me know if you need any additional info and I'll do my best to help where I can. I used to live in Lansing, MI, so I can hook you up with many Mazda enthusiasts who have connections on where to get good quality work done at basements prices. Let me know and I'll give you their contact info. (thumb)

Please let me know were I can get some work on my protege. Many people in my area are inexperienced when it comes to proteges. MY car is currently at API in clinton twp., MI but I may pick it up today? I have an oil leak possibly a bad turbo and I need a new clutch and flywheel? Please let me know a good shop in Michigan, I have had lots of bad experiences.

Thank You very much!

edit- sorry I meant to PM you this?
