First Speeding Ticket Evar

Pulling down your radar detector at the last second will not help you out. If it's on your windshield when you're clocked you can bet that the officer already knows it's there. If he sees you pull it down and hide it you'll probably get the ticket anyway.

Since this is your first offence you should be able to plead it down to a non-points speeding violation. Same fine, no points. I did this on an 85 in a 55, no problem. And yes, my radar detector was up the entire time.

I don't know exactly how things differ in NJ versus PA -- but if the same thing happened to me, I'd just suck it up and take the points and fine. You were caught, end of story. If you go to court, chances are that you'll lose. I've been to court in NJ over a ticket -- I lost within 10 seconds AND had to pay an additional $80 in court fees.

I just don't think it's worth it. Take the punishment and go with it. Not much else you can do, IMO.

If you do as Rush says then you will save the court fees but get the points for sure.

If it's any concession, your insurence shouldn't go up with your first violation as long as it's not reckless op. (Unless you're 16 or 17...then it might go up a small amount, but nothing major)

alright it depends a lot on the economy of the city also and where the ticket was. An upper-class city you can go and plead guilty, dress up real nice and look very presentable, the cop will likely (not always) put you down to a less charge, especially on your first offense. If an economy is based a lot on things such as tickets, it is hard to predict if the judge will go easy on you, go harder or whatnot. So if you received your ticket in an upper-class town, plead guilty and the worst that will happen is he'll make you pay. if its a small lower-class town it might be safer to just pay the ticket and pay for court supervision.

I have a lot of family friends that are involved in the law (judicial side) and I have plenty of my share of tickets... 29 over not too long ago. yeah i'm dumb... don't speed anymore but at least you might learn from my lesson.

ok not to thread jack but i got a ticket about a month an a half ago. its due next week, what should i do ? i think u can do traffic school every 18 months and i went to traffic school about 3 months ago(illegal left turn between certain hours) currently i dont have any points on my record. this last ticket is speeding, he didnt use the radar he just pulled me over cuz he saw a yellow car cutting through traffic in the freeway, there was actually a car behind me who passed me cuz i spotted the cop in my rear view and slowed down. So he pulled me over and told me he was gonna write 2 offenses excess speed around 80 and changing too many lanes or something like that. The cop was cool so i asked him to just write one, so he put excess speeding aprrox 80 mph. So if i plea guilty will i still be able to ask the judge to qualify for traffic school or reduce it to a no point violation ?

but as i said u can do traffic school every 18months and last one i did was 3 months ago.
will i still qualify ?

don't know if you'll qualify but you may be able to acctually fight the ticket. your offenses were quite vague...

did you admit to going a certain speed or anything? don't know if they could use it against you because of the miranda rights but who knows. pdhaudio you know, I only had one semester in CJ

Just go to traffic school. You can do it on line or go to a 4 hour class in Florida. Your state might be different. You don't want the points on your license, just in case you get others. Plus your insurance carrier will see that you have taken a defensive driving course, which tells them that you are proactive in correcting your behavior.

I went to traffic court to fight a ticket once. Its a crapshoot at best. I ended up losing, paying court cost, and getting sentenced to a 2 day driving course. It would have been cheaper for me to pay the fine.

Sometimes, if you are respectful, honest, and apologize for the offense you can get off with a warning or nothing. I have been pulled over many times while speeding and did not get a ticket. It just depends on the mood of the officer and how fast you were going.

here in fla if you elect traccif school they put no points on your lisence and your insurance does NOT go up. i have very many tickets. and only 3 points because i'm a dumbass and forgot to actually GO to traffic school once after ELECTING it, i had to pay lots of money.

13 over the speed limit = not that big a deal. Sorry, but you should see my stack of tickets (51 in a 25, 70 in a 35, 85 in a 55, 98 in a 65, to name a few). Cops love my pull-me-over-yellow paint, LOL. I'm no stranger to traffic school.

111 in a 60. in a black G35 (there were 5 of us and i was the only one pulled). oh wow how ironic, you're avatar is a monkey holding a gun and gilbert godfrey is making fun of planet of the apes right now on comedy central.

Yes, it must be the paint and not the FACT that you're actually speeding.

I don't think we have the option of going to traffic school in Canada...when I speed, I know there will be consequences and if I get caught I pay the ticket. Even though our speed limits on the highway are ridiculous there's not a lot you can do here.

If I pay the fine, I get 4 points. I can only take off 2 points at a time, once every 5 years if I take a defensive driving class.

If I take a driver improvement program, I get 3 points off if I stay clean for a full year.

None of this applies to my insurance, which is all that really matters. I need to keep this crap off my record. Hopefully being respectable in court will keep my nose clean.

By him writing RADAR on the ticket, he was prolly just saying what he used to determine your speed.....once on mine they wrote estimated, radar, and lidar or some ****** s***, I forgot what it was...........

Look dude, there is a good chance you are going to do some time. Just give me 10,000 dollars, and I can keep you out of the State Pen. Some judges owe me favors around your way. Call Cherise at my office to set up an appointment.

Why would you get 4 points for only going 13 over?? Isn't that a 2 point violation?

Oh s***.... You're right! It's only 2 points. I got messed up because the ticket says 1-9, 10-14....etc. But points system has 1-14, 15-29....etc. (2nd checkbox)

Looks like only 2 points if I don't fight it, which I will because I want to keep my record clean.
