CX-9 2011 AWD GT
Hi,

Firstly I'd like to thank the forum members for all the information you have posted. We were looking for a second SUV/Crossover in the used car market and after reading many of the posts on this forum, including several covering potential transfer case issues, we ended up with a CX-9. While we were not looking specifically at Mazdas we used CarGurus to find SUVs that met our criteria (cost, age, miles) and were aggressively priced. This gave us a short list of a Chevrolet Equinox and the Mazda CX-9.

A local non-Mazda dealer had a 2011 CX-9 AWD GT on their lot for the last 4 months. Originally listed at $21.5k it has slowly dropped in price and we managed to pick it up for $15.5k and a tank of gas as they wanted it sold before the end of the year. The car has had one owner, carfax is clean and the transfer case looks fine.

The only issue I've found (so far) was having to super glue the 'clip' of the Air Inlet Duct Cover since it had partially broken off. 5 minutes and a bit of glue and it works fine.

Overall very pleased with our new runabout.

78,000 miles. Higher mileage than I was looking for however car doesn't look or feel the mileage.

You got it for 4k less than the normal price. You really scored a good deal there.

Agreed - that's why we went for it. At that price it was too good a deal and the car was in very good condition. As an added bonus the dealer had also carried out a $650 service (as per receipt) which included replacing interior/exterior bulbs that were not working, replacing worn brake pads, changing oil/filter etc.

While the navigation and interior is a little dated in design, it drives well and the manual shift is very smooth. Have to say that I get a smile when driving it.

Just checked at the local Mazda dealer and the transfer case was changed at 73k miles on 7/2013 under warranty so that is good news.

The rear shocks do appear to be leaking. I'm not going to be able to replace them myself so any suggestion on cost to have someone replace them?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum Wombat! That's good news your transfer case was swapped out only 5k ago... If you're even a little handy, you might want to swap out the rear differential fluid as well, based on the age. It's probably never been done because most people forget about it, but it will keep the differential happy, thus keeping the transfer case happier.

Thank you. I'll take a look at the rear differential fluid change and give it a go

thanks!

Welcome to the Group. I have a '10 Sport that I bought new. Never needed any chassis, or suspension work until it was way out of warranty. Personally I have been very pleased with Firestone service for brakes, tires, alignment, etc. Since you have an AWD, you may be interested in their lifetime alignment. Based on my own experience, when I need suspension - like shocks - I'll take it to them. I have no connection with Firestone - they've just been great to me.

Wish everyone a happy new year - and the very best with our CX's this year!
