First oil change on MS3

I bought my MS3 in October it currently has just over 1000 miles on it. I just got a notice in the mail that it's recommended to change the oil every 3750 miles or every 3 months. Is this necessary? If not when would you guys recommend changing the oil?

I did my first oil change at 1100 miles. The oil still looked OK but I like to get the initial wear metals out of the engine pretty quickly. Go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and look in the used oil analysis section. There are enough posts there to validate the fact that these engines have fuel dilution issues for the first 10,000 miles or so - probably because the ring pack doesn't seat all the way in until then.

After that, you could probably go with 4,000 miles oil changes with a good synthetic oil (Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol etc.).

I recommend using the factory oil filters because some aftermarket filters use really cheap O rings that may or may not leak.

One other thing: be sure to get the proper tool to remove the oil filter housing - some people have used channellocks and other devices to grip the housing and inadvertantly cracked the plastic housing. That could be a distasterous scene! I got my filter cup at PepBoys for under $4. Cheers!
