So after stopping at the local bev mart to pick up some stuff for tonight's celebrations, I drove off to the mall to go to a movie (fun with dick and jane (not so funny actually)) with my gal and some fraternity bros. I had the music up and didnthear anything wierd until i was on the off ramp and i turned the volume down, I heard a sqeaking that wouldnt go away, until i broke for the light at the end of the ramp. Drvingaway from the light the sqeuking was gone. 2 minutes later i was parked and checking out my breaks. My left rear wheel was hot to the touch and i could smell burning break pads. and the rotor has 2 circular gouges in it. The rotor was to hot to touch (i touched it) I'm wondering is it possible that my parking break failed to disengage? It is freezing cold outside here.Anyways i definitely need a new rotor, and mot likely a new pad. Any ideas on the problem and a good way to go about fixing it would be great. Also i just rolled over 30600 miles, and my waranty is up at 30000.

Thanks
Matt

In LA traffic, I've burned through stock pads in 30K. It's a good possibility that you are hearing the wear sensor ... unfortunatly not before you grooved your discs. If you're lucky you can get the rotors turned if the groove is not too deep. Get it fixed asap ... the longer you wait, the more $$$ ... good luck.

Sounds like the same problem I had. Caliper is seizing. The slider bolts on the calipers need to be lubricated regularly, every 15K miles or so.

I had the same gouged rotors and on/off squeaking. Hub/rotor was hot. Had to replace rotors.

Same here....had to get new rotors and pads at 30K

Every car with rear discs need this type of maintenance when you have winter to deal with.

CBCBD's rear caliper froze some time ago......sounds like this has happened to yours. think there is a TSB on this though. my sister had the rear brakes done on her 01' es2.0 a couple years ago due to frozen calipers.......

edit: i was figuring something terriible went wrong. this is an easy problem to fix.

just for info.. the rear rotors are composite and even if they are turned, they have a tendency not to last long. I would suggest just buying new rotors anyways in addition to the caliper you may or may not need.
