Finally got my MSP

After dealing with the insurance company for a while, and working things out with the dealer and all, I finally managed to score the car. I'll have pictures just as soon as it stops raining here, but if you see a silver MSP in northern NJ, it might just be mine :D

grats on a new speed :) and when you said silver, did you mean silver or titanium? I havent heard of any with the actualy silver yet

Congrats on the purchace! I know how you feel on the "dent in the bank account" The down payment killed me.

Try to make it down to the VA meet on Sept 13th. That way you can see the great community you have gotten yourself into.

Bakari-who thinks the Mazda community is waaaayyy cooler then the Nissan community

I have a huge dent occuring each month but I LOVE MY CAR!!!!

titanium, but people give me strange looks when I tell them that's the color of my car, so I'm sticking with silver :D

I plan on breaking it in slow though. Test drove the car with 2 miles on it, and I was the only driver. So those miles are all me. It's hard to not push the gas though, just as I really start to feel the power, I have to shift :(

By the way, how long should I drive it like this?

My service department said the first 100 miles, then it didn't matter what I did. The manual says 600 miles, so take your pick.

It's mainly to break in the clutch and get the engine up to temp gradually so it will stay within the spec tolerances

You should really say Titanium since Silver is an 03.5 color too. If people don't know what it is, tell them dark metallic gray.

My parents picked up my car with 8 miles on it in Delray, drove it home to Ft. Lauderdale, & then up to Orlando. I got it with 275 miles, but I know my dad took care of it. Right now I'm at about 435. :D Don't worry about the break-in...this car is so much fun to drive even if you aren't accelerating quickly.

I have heard so many different opinions on this..."drive it like you stole it" all the way to break it in for the first 4000 miles. This is what I'm doing:
  • vary the RPMs & avoid extended cruising at a constant RPM (in other words, drive city & not highway)
  • keep it under 4k
  • don't floor it
  • I'm trying to get to 1000 miles before NOPI, so I can safely do the LONG drive for that
  • by the time I get back from NOPI, I'll probably be on my way to 2000 miles & then I'll be all set to drive it hard

... and if you see a black MSP when you travel west from Chatham, umm, that'd be me! And if it has '03.5 MSP wheels, then it's definitely me but maybe 3 weeks from now...

Oh - and I'd follow the manual, taking it easy for the first 600 or so, then changing the oil at 1k (use regular dino oil and a good filter), then again change oil at 5k (synthetic from here on out, always a good filter). Taking it easy the first 600 is the toughest part! Changing the oil is easy, regular ramps work, but just cover the axle with tin foil to keep it all neat.

Good luck! and enjoy...
