Great work and effort aftershock63...these are the best types of threads.
*(jacked)* it is on the top of the first post where it says thread tools*/(jacked) *(back on topic)

Matty P:

I think i know what your prediction is but regardless if it doesn't work its not like this stuff doesn't still have value. Thats what E-Bay is for you know. I'm still going to try my damnedest

I also talked to people at summit about the jacobs ignition and he said that the accel line is similar about how they keep the factory ignition in place. He said one of the big differences is how they pick up the signal to trigger the spark. They use a pick up off the lead plug wire. I'm not sure how that works cuz I've been doing research in other areas but I just wanted to let you knwo I atleasted touch base on it.

It can be done, there is one Red Protege 5 running Microtech and a DIS-2 MSD setup running high 11s
damn, all the hardcore proteges are in PR... hell, all the hardcore CARS are in PR. you puerto ricans are pretty serious about your tuning aren't you...

i'm interested in this project and the outcome... if i will be able to retard timing and make corrections to the spark, it would be very nice... i have a plan up my sleeve, but it will require the ability to control timing and spark. timing more importantly than spark. spark would be nice to have, but is not necessary. gonna up the boost to 13psi hopefully... on pump gas 91 octane.

You can basically use any aftermarket ECU with the DIS-2....I had a complete plan to go with the haltech E6X and the DIS-2...part numbers and everything.

Yeah a CD ignition on any aftermarket ecu is pretty easy because theya re made to be compatable with a lot of different types of ignition systems.

OK, I'll try and do that this weekend.
Thanks a bunch! I'm going to try and monitor voltages threw a few wires just so that I can get a few things straight in my head I have a good ideal of what is going on but at the same time I want to be sure I'm right on.

I think we have definatly made some progress though.

I'm running the MP3 ecu and there is no difference in anything but my gas bill. I also run 94-96 octane. My 1/8th mile times changed none. That to me means nothing was done.
Matty, the advance ignition timing is up top, where you aren't going to "feel" it as much anyway. Not to mention it isn't that aggresive as timing is concerned.

Go look at the dynos we did at Flyin' Miata/Protege. The advanced timing is obvious at the top end, which incidentally is where knock occured on the MP3 ECU!

Blue line is MP3 ECU in an MP3, and red line is the Protege 5 ECU in my MP3.

No problem, the most work will be digging the ole hitachi out from the closet!

Did you happen to come up with anything? I tapped into the wires with a multi-meter and for the 2 wires that weren't the trigger seemed to remain at a consant voltage of around 13.3ish I think a grounding kit would help this voltage be a little higher. I tried to monitor the voltage on the trigger wire and could not. I believe this to be because of the fact that it is a square signal trigger wire so i was reading basically a rms value of voltage because it peaks and falls so fast I my meter can't peak up the peak value that quickly.

I'm having trouble following your dyno...it looks with the mp3 ecu you made +3hp but -2lb/ft...it's almost a dead draw between the p5 ecu and mp3 ecu. I'm running the mp3 ecu with a wagner turbo kit and have never had any detonation problems....this may be why. Is there a way to make the advance more agressive or is it a set value? There's no sense in paying for 93octane if it'll run just as well on 89octane.

No thread jacking here please address all side comments in a PM. I am just trying to keep this an all information based thread.
