Filled motor mounts vs. motor mounts/inserts

I want to get new motor mounts but don't want to get the full on aftermarket mounts or inserts because of the vibrations. How do filled factory mounts compare in stiffness? I'm guessing that since they are filled with silicone that they aren't nearly as harsh but I could be wrong. Anyone have any thoughts?

im in the same boat. my front insert is cracked and im sure others are starting to go on me. i dont know what to do, inserts or try to fill them

I tried filling mine with epoxy and at first it was decent, but after a few days, the stiffness went away. For some reason the added vibration stayed. So I'd personally recommend against something as hard as epoxy at least. :-)

I then tried an aftermarket mount, but there was too much vibration so I ended up buying a new stock mount.

I have 2 of my mounts filled. I filled the upper one by the valve cover with some left over clear RTV I had laying around, mostly out of curiosity, and it has held up well for about 2 years. I recently did my front lower mount with window weld. I am right at the point where stuff will start to rattle, but not there yet, which is exactly where I want to be.

From my experience with the two, I think I like the silicone RTV the best. It isn't nearly as messy, and seems to dry about as fast as the window weld. Plus, 3M window weld is fairly expensive. I say if you do go for it, just buy a large caulking gun sized tube of the silicone.

For the record, I have had mount inserts in the past in my civic. They were energy suspension brand I believe. I had the most annoying rattles on the planet after that install, and they seemed to get worse over time.

looks like ill be filling my front mount pretty soon with some RTV. ill pull off the other mounts at the same time and check them out and reinforce them if i have to i guess

i used window urethane on my buddies zx2 escort, it worked very well.i just got to do mine now

i was thinking about some window silicone too. not sure which i should do then since it seems like both will work

Just did this three weeks ago. I used PL window urethane from Home Depot. It was about $5 for a tube. I filled my lower front mount and the upper right passenger side mount. I let them cure for one week. That just happened to be when the blizzard hit here in the DC area, so it worked out well. After two weeks of driving, they seem fine. I do have some vibration when idling, but not enough that it bothers me. Well worth trying since it's a $5 fix versus almost $200 for new mounts

i used 3m window weld from advance auto.its like $18 a tube

i have stock mounts on my car but i already got the front one replaced 3 times already and i just decided to get a AWR solid mount, do you guys think is that ok bcause this is my commute car. any answer will be appreciated, thanks!!

I have a question, what purpose does changing motor mounts serve?

so your engine doesnt thrash around. when you accelerate the engine kinda torques in its place and thats not good for the exhaust or the transmission. thats how i broke my exhaust. i accelerated and the engine just popped the weld right off

it'll be fine as long as you dont mind the vibrations. lol. idk you can try the stock mounts again since this isnt a car your gonna mod but it seems they will keep breaking .

complete newb question, after taken the mount off, what are the nessesary steps in filling it. I am in need of a replacement rear mount, If I could fill it owuld be great and normal drying times?
