FE3 into P5

Ok, as of now my car has recently been stuffed with an (FS-ZE) from corksport. Runs good but still not enough. What i'm thinking of doing is selling both my stock (FS-DE) and J-spec (FS-ZE) motors and try to locate one of these FE3 motors...........................Now my question (KIA SEPHIA). I've heard that this particular automobile uses an FE3 mazda 2.0 with forged internals although it has kia stamped all over it. Basically a BP on steroids. Is this the same FE3 that is found in the european 626. .............I've heard that the (e-spec) version FE3 uses a bigger cylinder bore, lower compression and higher flowing head. Is this true......................If any one can give me any type of simularities and differences of these particular motors please inform me............... As i am seriously thinking about putting this motor into my 5 and boosting it to hell. Supposedly this motor can hold over 20lbs of boost on stock internals ...........................FLYINMIATA has a blue and white miata with a kia sephia block and bp head that puts like 350hp to the wheels.......................OK,Back to the motor. Can someone please let me know If this European motor is the same as the kia sephias found here in the states. There is a junkyard about 5 miles from my house with 2 mangled sephias whos motors are still in great condition, one has less than 20,000 on it. I can grab the motor up for like 300 bucks and with my two other motors sold i should have some cash to be able to have some custom s*** fabricated to get it to fit in my 5 and turbo it. .................................Also what trannys and axles are compatible i will also most definately need a stand alone, fpr, etc, etc,etc...........................Cash is no thing i just need some solid info please......................I would like to boost the stock FS-DE with a BEGI kit, but the FS will never hold up to high boost as well as the FE3 without internal work.Internals get expensive, for that i will go with some FE3-T power. TECHNICAL 5

the FE3 is foudn int eh sportage not the sephia

Yep the Kia Sportage has the FE3, no turbo but all the interenal goodies from what I understand. Not sure what is all forged.

Hey chdesign, what is so special about the FE3?

lets see
A. Forged Pistons
B. Forged Rods
C. Forged Crank
D. Oil Spuirters on the pistons
E. reinforced block
F. BUILT FOR TURBO
The engine is awesome. It is not a direct swap by any means into the Protege but if you got one in it would be awesome. Its not a matter of it fitting into the engine bay its a matter of motor mounts and whether things will line up and getting the right axles and everything. It would probably take a good 2 months to do this swap correctly. Once it was done though mazda will then have its zoom zoom.

if it's not a direct swap, what's the advantage of using that as opposed to something else, say an MR2 Turbo motor? or a SOHC Honda?

just curious. i can say that my roommate has a sephia, and that thing is a piece to drive, although he seems to love it.

My mistake, thought it was in the sephia.Regardless it should not be hard to find a sportage. Hey CONCEPT 5 i already have a buyer for the (FS-ZE) if i decide to do this project. I'm letting it go for 1500$ only has 32,000 on it.......................It seems as if not to many no too much about the FE3. :( ......................I'm gonna contact flyinmiata and see what they know.....................They should have some knowledge since its in one of their miata's.

Its advantage is that it keeps a mazda motor in it and it can hold 500 hp in stock form. Show me a MR2 turbo motor STOCK that can hold that....you won't....and a SOHC D16 motor..... WTF that motor makes less power than the stock 2.0L

the Sephia has the BP motor from first gen Proteges.

for you auto history buffs, Kia and Mazda have ties to each other since the '60s. In some way Kia is the Korean Mazda!

Thanks for the links zoomzoomh you have provided me with the info i was looking for. I found a page with nothing but FE3 talk, sweet.

hey Tech 5 found anything out about the FE3? Does it matter that its set up for rwd apps? I am interested in doing something like this too so any info will help.

What about the engine in the Tribute. That produces 200hp, right? in the 2wd vers is fwd right?

The FE3 is basically a bp miata motor on steroids.(its a mazda motor not kia) It has very strong internals and can be boosted up to 400 hp with the rite setup. If anyone is going to do a motor swap into a 3rd gen protege this is the motor i would recommend forget the FS-ZE.FE3 wont be easy to swap but it will fit with a s*** load of custom work and $$$. I was thinking about doing this swap but backed out at the last minute do to funds. Now im back on my feet and im thinking about trading in the P5 for an infiniti G35 coupe when it comes out. 280 hp pimped out coupe basically a fancy 350z with more power. I cant wait, i still love my P5 in the corners though just not enough power on a straight.

correct me if I'm wrong but isnt kia, toyota?

Kia is not affliated with Toyota in anyway.

Kia is owned by Hyundai.

Kia has been sourcing older Mazda technologies for a long time.

Kia, Mazda, and Ford has had cars built for each other, and sold under each other's badges.

OK I have ben looking for a winter beater anyways. Sound like I should find myself a sportage for short $$ wait till it dies then have some fun with the FE3. Will the FE3 hook right into to any other mazda, other then pre 93 MX-6? MX-3?

I checked out a sportage on edmunds.com and it listed the engine as 2.0L. I thought the FE3 was 2.2L
