FD's on Proteges Club

in this case OG = original guy with FD's !

do you guys use any spacers at all , front or back ?

i run 3mm spacers. in the front they are used to clear the strut mount. in the rear they are to get the wheel to seat on the hub face. the FD's have the same center bore, but its not as deep as the protege wheels. so when you mount them to the rear hub, the wheel face wont sit flush to the hub face.

3-5mm spacers can be used with stock lug studs. i suspect you could run as much a 15mm with the FD wheels and still fit some tires under the fenders, but you will need longer studs for spacers that thick.

as for tire size, i run 215/45's. 225/45's will fit too. anything wider, and you'll need to do some rolling under the fenders.

I'll be joining shortly. Picked these up today:

(2) Dunlop Direzza Star Spec 225/50/16
(2) Bridgestone RE-01 225/50/16
(2) Hankook Ventus RS-2 225/45/16
(2) Hankook Ventus RS-2 245/45/16

The dunlops and the 245s are basically cooked, but I figured what the hell.. they're good for at least a few thousand miles or a couple track days. Absurdly good price. He's buying 1/3 of an R-compound with what I gave him for all these.

holy crap! thats some serious tire right there, i tell you what. i'm a little curious how the 245's are going to fit.

Serious tire, for under $8 a tire! LOFL

They're all basically the same width except the RS2 225s. the RS2s are obviously shorter being lower profile. but with 2 stacked sideways, the 245s are nearly identical in height to the other 225/50s

Exactly... If shipping wasn't so crazy I would have picked up some r comps. Instead I went with the next best thing, extreme performance! RE01R!

I think my pair of those have the best tread of any of em. pattern looks similar to the star specs..

8 bucks a tire wtf!

the guy won the FWD class last year (which doesn't allow R-compound tires). Since the Mini Cooper S is no longer in G-stock class, the ACR Neon he has should dominate it. R-compound tires ARE allowed in that class, so he wanted to dump this rubber to make room. The 245s were freebies he threw in. Otherwise it woulda been $10 a tire. LOL

I'm probably picking up a full set of Star Specs from him next year that should have more tread on em as well. lol

Nice dude. i wish i could find a deal like that id much rather drive on some 8 dollar tires than the pos generals i have

with the BC coils i was able to run 245/45/16 up front with no problems and no spacers, but thats cause coils have a WAY smaller spring perch.

but like njaremka you will need to run spacers for the rear, i ran without them and it was noisy as hell and really made me feel uneasy driving with it like that, but the 245s did fit in the rear with out rubbing the struts but i would of had to raise the rear some.

i really like the look but those huge tires just doesnt make it for me.

i love the 16" rim and meaty sidewall, i hate how my car looks with the rubberband 40 series sidewall.

I like it, because it helps move further from the "import rice rocket" and more toward the beefy, functional, hot rod look.

(criticize if you want, but "tuners" are just [new] "hotroders")
