Fastest Way To 220HP?

95 Protege 5spd. and 92 Miata 5spd
Me and my dad finally decided to get cracking on the 93 miata.....it's only got 50k miles so we plan on using the 1.6L thats still got plenty of life in it.

We just need a parts-list to get to 220HP (our goal). We already have the jackson SC on order.....any tips/hints/parts that anyone recommends on our quest beyond 200 would be greatly appreciated.

(nana)

EDIT: we ARE aware that on our quest for 200+, stuff is gonna break....a la clutch and rear differential....so if you have already replaced them with aftermarket parts feel free to throw those in here too!

I'm completely talking out of my ass... but as far as I've read the Jackson SC is really not the way to go if you eventually want 200whp.

A better way to go for big supercharged numbers seems to be the Flyin Miata Ubercharger. Or for turbo the cheap Greddy turbo (+intercooler and some other upgrades) or Flyin Miata turbo.

Or of course, DIY turbo is also an option-- see Kevin (kcbiw?)... his $2000 Challenge Miata is making 200 at the wheels with a Mercury turbo and an intercooler.

Hmm, I don't think you'd get 200+ with a JRSC on a 1.6, unless you threw in some nawsss. My 1.8 with a JRSC/big boost kit makes 170..

that M45 blower is only good for so much. If I was you, I'd cancel the order, and wait for FM to come out with the Uber kit.

but:
you'd need at least the clutch, probably upgrade to 1.8l clutch/flywheel
diff would be ok as long as you don't dog it. But save money for a 1.8l diff
ECU: Link is tried and true
bigger injectors, with dual feed fuel rail. fuel pump
intercooler
bigger radiator
header/exhaust. note: only a few headers will fit with a JRSC

that should get you started.

hmm...i see, well i DID go ahead and cancel my order, and i'm lookin' into the flyin' miata website to see what they've got...

i'll keep posted

I'm just sayin....

Wow! A '93 with 50k miles. She's just a baby! ...an excellent place to start :D.

Perhaps sacraficing a bit of reliability, it's possible to build a Miata with a very respectible power output, yet not break the bank at the same time. In addition to what those have already posted and depending on how techincal you are, you may want to consider piecing together your own setup. I built a "junkyard" Miata into a turbocharged, intercooled, 200+ RWHP racer for ~$2000 including the cost of the car (see http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84468 ). Running at 8 PSI with creep to 10 on the stock computer, the dyno states about 210 hp at the wheels. With the redesign, my goal is over 220 at the wheels on the stock 115k+ mile engine.

Going the custom route requires a bit of ingenuity. My primary suggestion is to improve the stock cooling system (aside from using a thicker radiator). See http://members.aol.com/solomiata/CoolantReroute.html .

If you decide to entertain this idea, I'm more than willing to provide any insite.

In other words, just a few thoughts for you to chew on. :)

With proper engine managment (key word), many people are running mid teens in boost. The stock computer with only a RRFPR can handle about 8 PSI but starts to get flaky around 10.
