Factory Side skirt install.

Well I picked up some skirts from a salvaged 5 for $120. Pretty good price if you ask me because new ones are like $350+.

But...... there is a problem.

I am putting these on a 08 sport which did not come with them.
Therefore, it did not come with the holes for the plastic push pins on the side.

If I could find measurements somewhere oh where to drill holes id have no problem doing that, but they need to be perfect! Anyone know where I can find such dimension?

There is also 3 more mounting tabs on the bottom that the car does have. Also one in the front wheel well. So I can actually attach the skirt right now but not enough to secure it so it wont look like crap or fall off.

No takers? :).

The mazda5GT at the salvage where you took the side sill from, does it actually have holes on the sides? Or is there an additional metal frame that has holes in it. It's kind of weird to have to need to drill holes on the body of the GS, just to install the side sill.
Because it would mean, they have another station at the factory with robots programmed to drill holes when it is a GS.

Or maybe there are already 'pre-stamped' holes in the GS that you only need to knock off if you need to add a side sill. Just like how there is 'pre-stamped' holes for the mudflaps.

The mazda5 manual does show the side still.. and the holes that's needed.. but it is not clear not even
showing the distance between holes.

I have the instructions for installing the side sill extensions. The instructions come with paper templates to tape to the car. These templates show you where to drill. I can make a copy of the instructions and send them to you. PM me if you still need help.

re: Factory Side Skirt Install

I have a 2010 Sport Manual that didn't come with side skirts (No 5-speeds in U.S. come with side skirts or spoiler, go figure). I had the dealer throw those in as our deal, but I noticed too that the plastic pins need to fit in pre-drilled holes.
The template mentioned by a10thunder would be very helpful. Otherwise I'm thinking of taking off the tabs and using JB Marine weld to mount the skirts.

Do the skirts retain water at all? I'm just thinking of rust...

Awesome! I would love to have a copy. Just make sure it's scaled properly, lol. I called the dealer and he couldn't seem to find the instructions anywhere but he said he'll keep looking. If you want I can send you some $ if you want to just send me yours.

OK, I have the instructions and templates scanned and converted to PDF. The original documents were printed on A4 paper. I scanned both documents to letter size while maintaining the 1:1 scale. The lower portion of each page is cut off because A4 is a bit longer, but it won't be an issue, only the page number is cut off. Enjoy.

Improvise and make your own. Double sided tape on the tabs, push it up against the body, remove the skirt and you have the general area. There are a lot of the holes.

I've heard of installs on the 3 (which are the same) have been done with only some fo the holes or simply using very strong 3M double sided tape.

Id normally do it myself but I figured since there is instructions, I might as well do it properly.

a10thunder: Thanks abunch! Exactly what I was looking for.

why can't you just hold the skirt up to the car and mark where the holes are? just use a sharpie or pencil through the hole in the skirt. keep it simple...
