SP20 Mazda
Hi I've just joined this forum for some help as my wifes 2002 SP20 Mazda which was brought new has had a misshap with interior scent that was on the vent leaking and taking the paint of the dash and getting into the radio which has caused the CD not to work.
I've had a bit of seach but I seem not to be able to find a thread on how to remove the radio out of the dash without damaging the dash or taking it to a Mazda dealer to remove.
I hope someone could put any links to a thread on how to remove it or explain in laymans terms in this post

Thanks

This has been covered many times if you search for "radio removal" in this section of the forum.

In short, you need a set of Ford radio removal tools (they look like U shaped pieces of thick gauge wire with little hooks on the end). The end caps to the radio come off to reveal small holes where the tools fit in. Push the tools in, apply force away from the center of the car and pull them out.

It's really easy to get out. Put painters tape oround the opening though to protect the paint.

I have a 6cd mazda headunit from my P5 in the for sale section if you are interested.

I took the radio out with some jewler's screwdrivers but I don;t recommend it for the beginner.

Thanks guys for the hints. I removed the beast with a cut up clothes hanger made in 2 horseshoes and a flathead screwdriver it was stubborn bugger but I got it out.
I'am hunting the wreckers in Australia 1st for another one as some of the 626 classic Mazda's had the same stacker radio. But if nothing comes up or the cost is way over the top I might take Nomad up on the radio at that price + shipping from the west coast of the US.

Sorry, radio just sold. There is another one for sale in the forum though.

Ok thanks. I picked one up from a wrecker today cost $250AUS. Something I noticed on the one you had advertised that the volume control was on the left. The Japs think of eveything on LHD cars even the radio knobs are different to the Japanese and Australian RHD cars.
Another interesting difference in model names is in Australia a Protege SP20 is the 4 door Sedan version and the hatch is a Mazda Astina SP20 .
Once again thanks for you help

Would you be interested in snatching some badges for me? I'll send you the cost of shipping?

Is this what you mean the badge is double taped on and the SP20 is a transfer there is 3 transfers 1 on the back and 1 each on the rear doors below the protection line.
A large Melboune Mazda dealer could help you with these I live on the east coast so shipping is cheaper to the west coast of the US.
