My 2 cents: I doubt you will get any HP gains on a cat back system from stock MS3... magnaflow makes catbacks so Im not sure what your question is... are you asking if there is a HP difference between a full catback change vs. just a muffler change? I would suspect not...

In reality catbacks make sense on a MS3 for either looks and/or sound but doubt you will see HP gains (at least not measurable on a dyno) - I like Borla and have a set of stingers on a diff. car.. havent looked to see if they make em for the MS3....

For any real power your gonna want a TBE(turbo back exhaust). Getting a muffler for this thing would be pointless unless your just going for sound, the stock cat-back is already pretty freeflowing to the best of my knowledge.

Please wait, we will have a system out in the next 3 weeks that will have dynos to show it makes more HP. We have several things in the pipe right now I am just waiting for my spot in the vendor section to open.

What would make you say that the cat back wouldnt have any gains? It would really depend on how badly the stock system is restricted. Just so you know tires and exhaust are always the last things to get designed on a car. So if the car went over budget or missed its target price those are the first 2 things to get hammered on before the final build. Hence junk tires that make a bunch of noise or exhaust systems that flow like 1" pipe. I am a betting man and I would say 10WHP could be gained with just a good cat back on the MS3. I hope to know soon.

a cat-back by itself has ABSOLUTELY NO GAINS on a stock ms3. this has been proven on MY car at AMS performance. they completely removed the stock cat-back and dyno tested to find NO GAINS ! a down pipe however shows good gains, according to several sources.. a cat-back will help down the road i'm sure, when the car has a tuning system, intake upgrades, and higher boost levels, but i would say it would be a wasted first mod, unless you just want it to sound faster !!

my car is the test mule for another companies exhaust right now (look in this thread for clues) dyno results available early next week !!

Yes I completely agree it depends on how restrictive the stock system is. If it was a normal mazda 3 I wouldnt have made the claim... its just that given the MS3 is the "factory tuned" version of the car I really think that there WAS budget to properly design the tires and exhaust... Im of the opinion that yes you could get "some" HP gainst but not something noticeable that wouldnt or couldnt be challenged to be dyno noise...now that is just my opinion and I have no facts to back it up -

Okay, its been a week or two. I've got my CAI installed, the Cobb AccessPORT is months away, so what should I spend my money on now?

Track days. I'm a big advocate of upgrading the driver before the car.

Amen to that. These things are a blast in stock form, enjoy em for all it's worth. They've got **plenty** to make track day a whole lotta fun.....they're begging for mods but really, they rock as is.....

You could always break away from the norm and opt for smaller (and lighter) rims, and brake components. You could get huge performance gains that way, but then it wouldn't look as good.

Food for thought anyway.
