Yep. I wouldn't add any coating whatsoever to the intercooler.

basically through reading a bunch of threads about upgraded TMIC's, it seems as though one doesnt add more power then the other, but it just adds a better cooling efficiency. Which in turn will add power that was lost due to heat soak.
Which is why i plan to get a 3inch core. Some may ask why i wouldnt just stay with stock, but the ets and hopefully the new trz TMIC are a better more efficient design. And to help counteract the heat soak a bag of ice or a IC sprayer.

i dont want to be Mr. negative here, but in the case of TMIC's on this car thicker is not better. my guys at TRZ are making me a IV right now, and they told me they will not go thiicker than
3". anything bigger is wasted. the IC will sit too far up in the shroud and cause most of the air to be diverted to one side of the core. that doesnt mean a 3.5 wont work. it does "fit" and it will flow better than stock. but from the measuring and mock ups done by TRZ i sure wont go any bigger. they specialize in custom fabrication, and the owner is my best friend. if he thought bigger was better, believe me i would have gone bigger. especially because the difference in cost is like $15 ! on a side note the 12" X 14" X 3" core the TRZ will use can support 500HP. why do you need more than that ?? it is their expert opinion that a 3" will flow just as well as a 3.5" and cool better.
the TRZ unit will also have a new cold pipe going to the throttle body. the stock pipe is a piece of s***. that is the single most restrictive part of the intake system. just my .02

That's kinda how I saw it. Then again, it's all arm chair quarterbacking IMO. My FMIC FEELS like it works well. I FEEL a power increase. Is it possible I am being cheated out of 0.7 HP at the flywheel because .25 inches of it sticks up past the shroud? I don't *know.

lol good call man, i guess maybe i was misunderstanding ppl, but i just couldnt figure how ppl were trying to say that forced air was being diverted off the face of the IC rather than going through it. Now that I understand what people are saying about the air diverting only through part of it, the argument actually makes sense. But again, do I really care about those <2 HP i might lose......heck no

you hit it on the head. the front of the 3.5" tmic sits too high. so basic areodynamics says it will lift the air up and over that area. so most of the air will be forced trough the rear of the core are. sure some air will flow trhough the front because air will always take the path of less resistance. but when the air is flowing to the rear that is a counter resistance so it gets tricky. what it comes down to is that the surface area of the core is beeter put to use on a core 3" or less on this particular car. (the $1200 auto exe is only 2.75")
stock is 2" thick, so a 3" is still a huge upgrade. i have heard of general clearance problems like rubbing with the thick ones too. IMO i wouldnt get a 3.5". if you are going ETS i say get the 3" even though it cost more than the 3.25" because of the hand fabricated end tanks. if you want the best TMIC as far as fit/finish/function i say hold out for the TRZ.

Please post pictures when you get it. Do they have a ballpark figure on the price yet bro? Would it be to much to ask for them to build some kind of rail to place a water nozzle on it?

The issue is that the 3.5" basically sits too close to the hood. The edges/walls of the 3.5" core sit higher than the edge of the ducting around the core, thus instead of the air rushing into the ducting down into the fins of the TMIC, it slams against the walls of the 3.5" core, turns into turbulent air and disperses everywhere...
As opposed to the 3" or 3.25" where the air that is traveling through the ducting is forced though the ducts and down through the TMIC fins.
Does that make sense...?

i dont think the question was does the 3.5 get enough air or is it still cold...i think we established in the first 5 posts of this thread that the 3.5 works just fine, i think the question now is, does the 3.5 provide a whole lot better performance than the 3.25? apparently the vendors dont think so...
Driver311, I know you have a fast car and of course a 3.5 core. Do you have any proof that a 3.5 is better than a 3.25? Besides touching your core after a drive?
Everyone talking about the 3.5 being too big might not be true but it's exactly what I was thinking as well.
I guess it's time for proof if anyone has the time or the means to slap on each core and do a dyno or something.

Oh Id be glad to if someone had a core to send me. But it would be worthless in 30 degree temps. Lets do this mid june on a 90degree day. If someone wants to ship their intercooler for testing Ill be glad to sport the dyno bill. I can do it the day it gets here. I have keys to the local dyno I just have to leave a 50 spot everytime I go.
